Default New to the Ls world and need some info.

I plan on swapping a ls motor in my 2002 Gmc Sonoma. I have already did the pre fab work to fit the engine between the frame rails. Also have a holley oil pan. I have a 4.8l sitting around. Not sure if i should use it or not. i was thinking about a 5.3l or 6l with trick flow top end kit and a fast intake. Any help would be great.

Yes a head cam 4.8 will easily make 400+hp. Manual or auto ?

Honestly Id get in touch with a vendor here. They will be able to give you information on what you will need for your goal. Such as what heads cam specs etc etc

Texas speed performance
(SRD) Smallwood Racing Development
Tony mamo Mamo motorsports

Are a few that come to mind

Maybe not a waste, but you likely won't be happy with the 4.8. Sell it off and put the cash towards a 6.0,putting $4k worth of heads, cam and intake on a 4.8 to barely out hp a bigger motor is not the best idea...

So you saying a H/C/I 4.8 is going to barely out hp a stock 6.0 ?

Do a search for 4.8L on Hotrod.com.

They thought they had a 5.3 and they wanted to see how much spray or boost it could take before it went boom.

They couldn't kill it and made nearly 1100 hp on the dyno before they showed mercy and did a tear down.

They found out it was a little 4.8L.

I would just put here in and get a turbo or NO2 kit and have fun till it pops then go looking for a 6L or 6.2L. JMHO

That's why I ask if it's a waste or not. I got the engine for free and use it for test fitting in my truck.

Looks like I'm the idiot here,$3100 USD for the Trick Flow Top End Kit and $900 USD for a Fast intake at Summit, makes perfect sense to bolt those parts on a free 4.8,if the OP got those parts for free, please share with us how that happened,we all would like a set...

If you are going to spend $4000 on top end, cam and intake. I would spend the money for the cubic inches and do it once.

why is it costing $4000 to pull 400hp out of an engine that already has 290hp to begin with? A set of headers, a well spec'd real aggressive cam and an intake with a solid tune should more than have you in that range

The 4.8L heads don't need to be touched for that hp goal at all. Aside from your supporting mods for your cam (valve springs etc.)

I would get a cam and springs leave the heads and intake stock and put the money into a good NO2 kit and spray the hell out of it.
