Default Project: "R3AP3R"

This build thread is about my '98 Camaro Z28. It will be done slowly so I will update this thread when stuff gets done. I don't normally make these kind of threads but a friend convinced me to throw it on here.

Background on the car. It's a '98 Camaro Z28 ttop 6spd car. Has around 120,xxx km's on it and is in immaculate condition. So far I've changed the wheels to the ZR1's you see in the pictures. They are 17x9.5 and 11's. I have a few small mods done (pro 5.0 shifter, SLP lid & bellow) but I will be adding my Vogtland springs and Koni shocks to that list within the next month. I need to order some UMI sfc's and I might grab a few more suspension pieces at the same time. For now, I will let the pictures do the talking.

Here is when I first got the car. It came with a magnaflow catback but I've since removed it in favor of a louder system.

Then I added the ZR1's to the car and sold the stockers off..

And in it's present state, I'm changing headlights to a whistler mod set and removing the front bumper to cut out some foam support so the grill actually feeds the rad some fresh air..

Thanks guys, no updates yet. Having time to spend on the car is limited. Once I get the nose off and the foam support cut up then I'll start work on doing the whistler mod to the headlights. Is TFBM still around? I use to go to the autox events.

Thumbs up

Clean Z28, I seen this posted on Kijiji a while back. Looking forward to seeing some more pics. Its nice to see fellow F body members in your area. Hard group to get a hold of especially out in the GTA.

Just ordered two Powerstick mufflers and an xpipe. Hopefully I can grab a set of Speed Engineering LT's within the next few weeks.

Man stock car brings back memories. It'll be a lot of fun.

Things I learned about my 98:

Computer is slow, but works.
98 rod bolts are weak; 7k rpm = spun bearing. Never, not even once, especially 7k under load.
LS6 intake will give you ~10hp
T-56 requires upgrades; 3-4 shift fork, paper to CF pads, keys etc, it's fairly well document. After this stuff, it's near bullet proof.
The 10 bolt WILL break; keep a fund for a replacement.

I still have some 98 Stage 2.5 5.3l heads on hand that need the valve guides replacing after going LS3.

Those heads any good? Yeah I knew about all the flaws these cars have but it will never be ground pounder.

I had 400 at the wheel with headers, cammed ls1, ls6 intake and those heads. I transferred it to the LS3 black initially, but on inspection after a year found some valve guide wear and decided the ls3 needed more air. Flow wise they hit almost 300 cfm under 0.600 inch lift.

-another note; skip shift. I hate this "feature" in gm cars. I tune it out ASAP on my cars.

That sounds very reasonable. I was thinking of just throwing a cam in the motor along with a dorman ls6 intake. Headers with exhaust and be done with it for awhile unless stuff comes up.

Yeah the car might make it out for a few track days. I'm going to need tires this year, anybody know of a place you can get deals from? I wouldn't mind another set of MT's on the rear but it's not a deal breaker. Maybe the same on all 4 corners just with 275/40 front's and 315/35 rear's..

Still looks like theirs plenty of tread on your rear MT's in the pics...?

Car looks good man, looking forward to cruising with this thing this year and maybe we can get Ray and some other LS cars out to play as well
