Default in tank pump, regulator close to tank ?

Hi guys,

First post here. Been member and lurking for a while, but now am taking the plunge. I'm about to do a LS swap on a first generation Camaro. It will most likely be a carbureted L33 5.3 which will be under 400 HP.

I really like the idea of an in-tank pump, probably will be going with Tanks Inc set-up.

Now my question: I know I have to run a bypass regulator but is it possible for me to install it very close to the tank and have only one line going to the engine compartment ? I'd really like to do this, if anyone has done the same, i'd really appreciate to hear any pros and cons.

Thanks everyone.

The factory fbody fuel system is like this. No reason you couldn't do it with an aftermarket regulator. Just would be tough to make adjustments with it in the tank but it's doable.

Ok, glad to hear that. But I was thinking close to the tank, having a hard time figuring out how to put it inside the tank. I had a "tanks inc" tank in mind.

There are quite a number of guys who do it the way you say. Just understand you won't get quite as perfect of pressure regulation as you would with a regulator closer to the carb.

In tank pump is the way to go. I have a noisy *** external that drives me bat ****. Best of both worlds get a fuel injection rated pump. That will give you options should you decide to go FI down the road. 400 HP can easily be supported by a standard Walbro type FI pump

We used a tanks inc deal in a 2nd gen Camaro at work, and put a regulator right in front of the tank and used the factory fuel line to feed the carb..... Did this about a year ago and customer is still happy with it.....

That is one of the reasons I want to do this, use the factory line.

The car we did it to had all new stainless factory replacement lines about a year before when it was restored and we didn't want to mess with adding another..... He doesn't drive the car everyday, sometimes it sits in his garage for a couple weeks or so and the gas would evaporate from the carb bowls..... He was tired of cranking the **** out of it to get gas to it, but he also did not want some noisy *** electric pump in the car so this was a good solution..... Good luck with yours.....

<-- noisy *** external pump, but with the 3" pipes and DynoMax Ultra's...I really don't hear it much LOL
Aeromotive SS pump, -8 line to regulator on wheel well under hood, with -8 to carb.
