MSD 6010 users. Whats your timing set at? I have a carbed 6.0 with L92 heads and a comp cam. What custom tune are you guys running? I am ditching the chips that it comes with. Whats your initial timing set at? And your final timing? Thanks fellas. |
After 3000 rpms i have 32 degrees of timing which seems to work for me. I have 28 degrees at idle. I have no map table yet as i want to wait until I get the timing set. I think 28 degrees at idle is too much timing. What are you carb guys running for timing at idle? |

I also have a carbed 6.0 with L92 heads in my '34 Ford street rod. I am running very close to what yours is at present. Mine is at 12* at 0 RPM (cranking speed), 28* at 850 RPM (idle ) and then 32* at 2800 RPM, if I remember correctly. I let mine go on to *34 up at 6000 and above. In my opinion, how quick you bring it in depends a lot on the weight of the car, the gear ratio, the cam and the torque convertor. But opinions are like belly buttons....everybody has one, LOL. |

The engine is in a '91 s10 so its pretty light. So you think this curve is okay? I am running a Comp Cams XR281HR. |
I have mine set at18* initaial from 0-1000rpm, then ranping up to 36*, all in at 2000rpm, then flat at 36* all the way. my 6.0L/L92 has 9.6:1 compression, and a comp 227/235 cam. my car trapped 121 last time out My next timing experiment is to run 18 initial and have it go to 36* at 750rpm. I idle the engine at 850-900. I beleive the engine will like this as the compression is too low for the cam. |
Think mine is at 24 at 0*-1000, then i ramp it up quick to 33 in by 3000, think i am going back to 36 total, seems like it enjoyed more timing, but i need to get some dyno time in to make sure i have data to back it up. |
mine is similar but i am on 95 octane uk supermarket fuel and we found detonation above 34 degrees at the top end so that was my limit. 15deg cranking, 18 at idle (plus upto 10degress with vac advance) and then no more than 34 at WOT or above 3000rpm. works well with a 750cfm mech secondary carb. |
Any pic's of the T70's set up Chris??? |

I have 5.3 all stock, Running 12* start up, 18* idle: 800rpm, 29* all in by 3000. 410 gears with a 700r4 Car is quick and pretty fast :) |
Now im wondering if 28 degrees at idle is to much? |
Hmm i cant remember what mine is, I am running an 8.1 with one of these boxes |
