Anybody tried Summit Racing carbs?
Given that I'm on a pretty tight budget I figured I might pick one up for my LS2 swap project when the time comes, they run $250 for the 750 cfm and that's right up my alley price wise. So I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them on their LS swap. My car will be built as a street cruiser, won't see any track time, all stock block with maybe a cam upgrade and ported stock heads in the future.

Yeah, IIRC its the old holley 4010? spread bore design. Meant to bolt on to an edelbrock/carter AFB flange IIRC. You see a lot of the old holley ones at swap meets. Just different enough from a 4150/4160 to be a pain IMHO. Eric L

IMHO, carburators are like cars or engines, its all personal preferance. Just like small block chevrolets, the holley 4150/4160 series has an ENORMOUS amount of aftermarket support and is widely understood. But for a street cruiser any properly jetted and tuned carburator will work just fine. Eric L

We picked up a 1973 Camaro Type LT that had a paint job out of the 80s (even laquer, lol) and a greasy orange smallblock with one of those on an old edelbrock torker intake with an edelbrock pro flow air cleaner. A true power house it wasnt, but it was a trip back to my child hood, lol. It even had the L60s wraped around some Crager SSTs, lol. Heres the icing on the cake...............................There was still an REO speedwagon mix tape in the casette deck..................Clarion of course, lol. We rocked out with our faux mullets swinging in the breeze....................good times, good times, lol.

There was a thread on here about a month or two back talking about the summit carbs. Summit bought the rights to make that carb from Holley. They are an improved remake of an autolite carb Holley made for Ford. My buddy has them on his boat.
Do a quick search on the old thread. Lots of guys really liked those carbs.
For a cheap carb get a used one. You should be able to pick up a used carb and rebuild it for well under $100. There is another currently active thread where guys are swearing by quadrajet carbs. Say they bolt and go with no tuning.

Yea if your just looking for a good cruiser and not worried about max performance, definitely try out a q-jet! They do very good on gas and they are really streetable. I just put one on my 5.3 in my truck and love it. Save your money for now and track one down and try it out. For as cheap as they are and easy to find its a good idea to throw on and test out. You might be surprised,

man i built a .060 over 350 stock bottom end flt tops ,with 305 h.o. heads on it with a 272 comp cam and a performer intake, long tubes 3.73 gear ,astro van posi, all used stuff with that carb.750i believe.put it in a 87 monte ss full weight it ran low 13s.thing had huge bottom end thanks to the large displacement and small heads, instant compression due to the small 58 cc chambers.carb worked great!! for a mild build id use it.and yes its just a remake of a 4bbl autolite ford carb, but upgraded.

Just look on cl or in junkyards for a q-jet. The one I'm using is off of a late 70s camper with a 350 in it. It seems to work good for me. I have heard that gm used some larger q-jets on the big block cars and trucks in the 70s and early 80s so for you those might work better. Look around for an old gm truck
With a factory big block and q-jet. I'm sure you can pick one up cheap. I had to buy a 17 dollar adapter to be able to use it on my victor Jr intake. You will still be money ahead though! Also the astro van rear won't work in your g body. Your rear end is most likely stronger anyways.

If you have a 7 5/8 rear it will fit,if you have a 8.5 rear you have a strong rear anyway just put a posi in it.the astro uses the same rear as the82-98 camaro and 78-87 monte Carlo ,cutlass, grand prix, regal ,s10 ,blazer only the grand national got the 8.5.it's a ratchet type posi ,it's not that strong with slicks .the 4 cylinder s10 you could get 3.42,3.73,4.11.thats where I got my gear.
