I have an 04 5.3 out of a gmc truck that I'm putting in my 65 chevy truck and I am looking for a cam. Recomend me something that will work with what I have please. I'm looking for a lope at idle but not interested in those thumper cams!!! I just want it to sound aggressive at idle an have some go also...
1965 chevy truck, 3.73 rear gear, 26" tire, 700r4 trans 24-2800 stall, 4000 lbs! I have a demon 650 carb now that I am keeping as I have a really good carb guy! Going with the edelbrock duel plane intake an 6ls box.

How aggressive you want? That converter is small for anything that is really a ground shaking cam. The hot cam ground on a 110 LSA would be decent. The edelbrock 2215 is right where you want to be weight wise and only need the cam. Will use the stock springs as well. Upgrading to LS6 springs will prevent valve float. The hot cam can use them as well.

I can get a looser convertor that's not a big deal. I plan on running some beehive springs also so lift shouldn't be a problem. I want it to run as well as it sounds but I want pretty aggressive sounding but still drivable... An will support future upgrades!

If you will go with a 3500 converter, you should be in good shape with this:

http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...1-ls6-engines/

It is kind of on the edge of what you are looking for, but will respond to ported heads in the future and will have the sound you are asking for. Should still bring TQ in quick and no be lazy.

Tick grinds them as you can see. For the best results, dont be scared to give them a shout and have a custom grind made to your likings that is one off and exactly what you are looking for. Martin is the guy to talk to.

Wow 3500 in a street truck @4000 lbs sounds alittle high. I'm worried about tranny temps when crushing with a stall that high. This truck will be a driver! It will still be a lockup converter but still sounds aweful high.

Trust me, I had a 3000 in a full size, it was just not enough. You will get lucky if it flashes 3500 at the track.

Dude, my luck with those manifold bolts breaking lately is just fantastic. At least 4 on every engine, LOL. I just weld a nut to them, by the time i get all of them welded, i remove them like a bolt. Works perfect every time. Screw an easy out.

Too bad you are not interested in the Thumpr series cams. The smallest one sounds like the perfect choice for your desired results.

Magic Stick cams are too big for your application.

I just want more than sound and that's what those cams are about. Not sure if the performance matches the sound

Well I think after watching alot if videos I'm going to do a very budget minded turbo build for a strip truck... 4.56 gear/ power glide and 28" tire!
