Since the open poster was a little vague on hos exact valve events, it would be kind of tough to estimate that.

OP, did Martin spec this cm to clear without fly-cutting?

I was vague only because I don't know if Martin cares if I post his specs on an open forum. However, he did give me the impression it would fit without fly-cutting. I asked for a cam that didn't require it, and his comment on that was, "I've learned some tricks with overlap and getting the amount needed in these engines with single plane intakes and not having to fly-cut. Although fly-cutting still yields the best results.". To me that sounds like it's designed to fit without cutting, but I would still check to be sure.

Got a question for you guys. When it comes to these engines, what is the generally accepted safe rpm limit on the 100% stock gen IV rotating assembly. I see where guys push theirs up to and over 7000 rpm but I'm not sure about that. Granted I've got no first hand experience with these engines, yet, so I thought I would ask.

I spin my gen III engines to 7200, the gen IV is even stronger. So 7000 is not a problem at all. If you have the valve control the. 7500 should be the safe point.

I can only only report what I have been doing. I started out with the rev limiter at 6600 RPM shiting at 6200 RPM. Now I have my limiter set at 7200 RPM and I shift at 6800. No problems to report.

I do not mind if specs are posted. Hell I can't even remember what they were.

Ok, well if it's no problem, then here is what Martin spec'd out for me.

229/248, .615/.595, 109+3

With that IVO and the lift it gives at TDC normally we have around .060" clearance on the intake with a 2.16" intake valve.

It still does not hurt anything to check and be 100% sure.

Also, before you think..."Man that's a lot of split!" Look at the events, specifically the exhaust opening and you'll see it's not what you would think. Most of the duration ends up on the overlap side of things and not the exhaust opening.

I put that much split in the profile to get the overlap in the camshaft that's needed. Although it would still make more power biased to the intake opening due to the shorter intake runner. This is what we have to work with in a stock bottom end engine when someone doesn't want to fly-cut.

I still haven't nailed down the combo but looking to have it ready to go in at the end of next month. It seems the more I research this thing the more confused I get. Reading countless threads here and other places, every time I think I've got a good grasp on what I need I start finding threads that conflict everythink I THOUGHT I knew. Ugh
