What a freakin' day.

1st pass...forgot to reset rev limiter bounced off it most the way until I figured it out.
Reset rev limit....and 32* flat lined.....shift at 7500....11.653 @ 114.43
36*....11.777 @ 113.56
So, went back to last best pass.....38* where it was last time
Pulled plugs....little lean and maybe a speck or 3
Changed primaries to 78 from 75
Went back to 6500 shifts...11.926 @ 111.59
Had to jump start car 3-4 times....No clue why yet.
Fan relay took a ****, so I called it a day as I loaded on the trailer puking anti-freeze.

WTF ????

That's weird, mines on 39, but I do plan to try pulling some out up top and trying it. Hope you didn't get a head gasket. Yours might like less. Is your cam custom or??

And if they looked lean, why did you pull jet?

No idea what was going on....maybe the DA ? Didn't look.
Over-heated due to a fan relay that took a **** on me, B-lined to the trailer from the staging lanes....just made it.

Cam is what Dave Mizell said he had in his first LS motor.
38* was as far as I went on the timing both this and last time. I tried lower and got nothing....can't understand why.
I just need time I guess....wife and work think I have too much time and not enough to do I guess

You said you had to jump start the car a few times? Maybe the msd doesnt like the low voltage your battery was at?
Also are running a map sensor? What map curve do you have in it?

The fact that the fan was not working kinda points to a heat soak situation? That will slow it down alot. What did the temp guage say on theese runs?

Usually about 160-170....I did let it get to about 190ish to see what, if anything, it would do....no change. Turned on second fan for the rest of the passes keeping it in the 170's.
And of course with everything going on, only got one pass on in car video which was the first one bouncing off rev limiter

Maybe it was a battery thing with the low voltage causing the MSD to not give the coils enough juice ??? That would make sense....hhhmmmm.
When I hooked up the laptop for adjustments it did show 12.4-7 bouncing.

Need to replace fan relay and check the charging system

Sucks so much issues, hate bad days at track...12 volts while running? Ya Id say not charging. BUt, 12 isnt very low either. Not sure if that would effect msd box and/or coils.

Your timing is way to high in my experience. Were you running race gas? I run shell 93 octane and my timing is 33 degrees... any more it will fall off. Race gas might change that but I don't see a need to change that. What rear jets do you have? I'm guessing you have a power valve in the front.

Also I just tried to find a build thread. The picture of your engine shows a very restrictive air cleaner set-up. I realize space is at a premium. I would get one with a flow through top. Pull the whole hood next time your at the track and put a big air cleaner on it. I would definitely add cutouts in the exhaust you have, if you haven't already. With RPM's your engine needs to breathe. Timing isn't fixing anything if its choked up anywhere.

Your engine was showing lean because the timing was to high IMO. Adding fuel... richening it up... would have only masked the problem and still wouldn't have run as good as properly tuned at the lower timing setting.

First time out I started at 32* going up every pass until 38* where it topped out ET wise and MPH was best at 36* So I wrote a 37* tune.
After about 7200 it seems to nose over some...exhaust or air filter ? Maybe ??
Last motor (406ci SBC) with same filter to 7500 didn't care if on or off....same ET's....so I think this may be ok ? (Same exhaust also)
I am wanting to go to a 3-3.5" exhaust and larger filter....some time later maybe.
It runs on 91 octane pump ****, only 10.4ish :1

I assumed open headers..
What does it have for headers and exhaust? What mufflers?
What kind of air cleaner and filter on it? Pics would be good. Some of the cheap chrome ones are really bad...
