Ok. The other thing that just occurred to me is your rear end gearing. Can't remember exactly what you've got but pretty sure they're higher (numerically lower) than mine so that would make your converter slip harder.

What other jet have you hit yours with successfully? At least 63, right?

3.90 rear gear and a 2.74 first gear. I hit it successfully with the 81 jet last year, but it was slipping bad last time I tried.

Hmmm, my rear is 4.11 and a 2.48 first gear. I'm too tired to do the math but it seems your steep low gear would negate my 4.11s and be close to the same final drive ratio if I'm thinking about this correctly.

So you think mostly what changed since last time is a combo of more power from your cam and maybe better air?

I was puzzled myself. The trans was rebuilt since them, but the trans is not slipping for sure. It is the converter. I did switch to Trick shift from Dextron III, but my trans guy says it is not thinner. He did tell me to check the line pressure though. He said if it is below 20 pounds that it could affect the converter. Lastly, I did add 10 degrees of exhaust duration. The nitrous may have liked that.

Ok, definitely a few variables at play here but no telling which is the cause for sure. I haven't hit my 8 inch 5000 with more than a 63 jet but I did it in negative DA and it didn't slip as bad as your describing. Then again....it was also killing the tires pretty bad so that would have taken some of the load off of the converter. I'll probably call and talk to Chris on Monday to get a warm and fuzzy. To be perfectly honest.....I don't even know the difference between a 3C and a 4C or a level II or level III. I usually do a lot more research but in this case I've heard so much good about them I'm just trusting they'll spec me the right converter.

She's all ready to go under the knife! Beside the new converter, I also ordered a steering box (mine is worn out and in need of a rebuild) and a 10psi residual pressure valve to install in my rear brake line. I'm not running a factory combination valve, only a Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve, so I think the rear brake springs are pulling the shoes away from the drums so that I need to give the brake peddle a second pump to feel confident when slowing from high speeds. Hopefully this will cure my problem.

Thanks man. So far I've done an oil change and tire rotation on my wife's vehicle and installed a suspension lift on my buddy's new GMC and yes, it was a very pleasurable experience. Still need to upgrade my compressor and install my heat/AC, but those will wait while I direct some funds towards the cars. Even with the extreme cold we've been having around here the garage still stays at or above 45 to it's tolerable.

Racecar!

Literally just finished a trans swap on the 98 TA I got for the wife. Have not messed with anything carbed much lately. Aside from a fuel pump for the s10, which the new one failed when w prospective buyer came to look at it for Christ sake....

I am looking for a cam for the 5.3 that will be going into the mustang. Should be fun. Keeping the 3.73s in it for the future turbo setup and the 4:30s that were for it are going into the 8.8 I got for my SS.

GC, where did you get your steering box from ? Seen a post where a guy got a new one from a vendor (HeartBeatCity ?) and they had an accident....they used cast iron ***** that broke.

It hooks more consistently in poorer track conditions since I added the lower control arm brackets. I don't really feel any difference on the launch, but it does lift slightly more. Very slightly.

Dang, that's some scary **** right there Doug! I bought a Borgeson box. Their website shows their factory being in Connecticut so I'm pretty sure they're at least assembled in the USA but I'm not positive all their components are made in the USA. EDIT: On second look, it seems they manufacture and assemble in the USA http://www.borgeson.com/shoptour.html

Looks like CPP's stuff (the box that failed) are made in China.
