Neanderthal Carb Guy BS Thread

This thread is for us carb guys who want to BS but do not have anything that warrants its own thread. Now Zones and TXSilverado have someplace to bust one another's chops without blowing up a tech thread. :jest:

I'll start:
I heard a rumor that Speedtigger may be testing a new cam soon.......

TXsilverado 09-18-2014 06:00 PM

LMAO great idea. I heard a rumor that zane wears granny panties.

what size cam do you plan on testing?

TXsilverado 09-18-2014 06:02 PM

And that's more of a build thread than a tech thread:cheers:

Any underwear in 3xl looks like granny pants LOL

TXsilverado 09-18-2014 06:35 PM

but zane's has racing stripes

ZONES89RS 09-18-2014 07:04 PM

This would promote post count whoring, which can help scammers to post in FS threads quicker.

NEVER tell me how you know that.

It is not much bigger than the one that I have. It is entirely possible that the whole exercise won't change much, but I want to try few different strategies.

There is also a possibility that I might test a few different cams.

I've always thought about going with a smaller cam and playing with cam timing. Try to get the same results I have now with a smaller cam

Speedtigger. What cam would you recommend for my setup. I have a 370 with tfs 220 as cast heads, Victor jr, qft 850, i.s sledgehammer plate. I only spray 250 to 300. I have a polluter cam in it right now but I am going to change the cam. It will be in a 72 skylark with a 400 tranny with a 4500 -5000 stall. 9 in rear with 4.11 gears. What would you suggest? Thanks in advance. Daniel

Daniel, I would suggest you get with Brian Tooley. Those are some of his favorite heads and his unique knowledge of them will allow him to create a really well matched custom cam for you.

I ran the one I have now in a few different positions, and it ran a bit better more advanced. But, that is when I had a tighter converter and was shifting at 6400.

Thanks man. I am in the process of getting one from him. I am going to put this engine back in my mustang and try to run some low 5's.

Nice. We expect to see of video of your exploits. Also, let us know what Brian cooks up for you.

I'll join in.

Thrashed the converter or trans from my s15 this year so everything needs to be taken out and gone thru. Couldn't get the truck to run hard like it did last year after switching pretty much everything this year so.... Thinking a single turbo mounted about bed level just behind the cab (for oil draining and keeping my swap lt headers) blow thru carb setup, a-w intercooler mounted in the bed just after the turbo, and a custom spec turbo cam. Something like a s400 ish and 10-15# fine tuned on the dyno dynamics eddy dyno the nearest shop uses. I could prolly sell my fast ez efi 2.0 kit to get some funds back. Thoughts?

Prorac1 09-20-2014 12:39 PM

I would see if fast has provisions for doing a ez efi 2.0 blow through. Now that would be cool

The first time I had seen a turbo at the rear of a car, I thought it was a joke or done by somebody who knew nothing about cars. But, I guess those setups can make some power. Back when I was into Turbo Buicks, we always tried to keep the turbo as close to the head as possible. We all believed that would produce the least turbo lag.

My brother sent me this picture of a pushrod out of the 406 in his 61 Vette. He pulled the valve covers and all of the rocker arms were super loose. He said you could grab them and flop them around by hand. Several of the pushrods had sheared off or lost the hardened tips.

My Dad actually left that 61 Vette to me, but I told my younger brother he could have it. My Dad had that car my whole life and I saw everything he did to it. That is why I told my brother he could have it. It would have taken me the rest of my life to make that car right. LOL

The ez efi doesn't work for blow thru setups for some reason. They don't want the liability or something I guess? I think with it more mid mounted and a smaller frame turbo it's lag shouldn't be tooooo bad. That's if I go thru with it I suppose it all depends on funds and what I'm doin thru the winter.
