Default buying a used LS mileage

So I have been searching LKQ auto salvage's site and the internet looking at used 6.0 LS engines. What is an acceptable amount of mileage for a used 6.0 as a basis for a performance build. Are people buying them and installing new rings and bearings or running them as is. I see a lot of engines advertised with 100,000 miles or more. What is acceptable and what is way too much. A local small yard has an LQ4 with 180,000 for $650, but it seems like too many miles for a performance build.

100,000 miles is barely broken in.

Lol, both my last 6 liters I spun to 7200 were at 198k and 210k miles. They both only got hurt because I was not monitoring the level of oil loss.

For $650 complete ? Why not ?
Consider it a core to re-build IMO...new rings, bearings, and gaskets aren't that expensive. Then add in new bolts (factory bolts are a 1 time use) and you'll have basically a new motor.

OR, just bite the bullet and buy a new motor if you're worried about mileage ?

New motor? Oh no son, I'm definitely on a mac-N-cheese budget, and not the fancy Kraft stuff. Ok all kidding aside, I don't have a problem with mileage, just wanted to know what the norm was on these new fangled engines. I'm still into the dinosaur stuff that requires a bore and hone after 80,000 miles. I thought about doing a high mileage 6.0 and throwing some rings, bearings and bolts at it, just didn't know if 180,000 was excessive compared to 80,000

I was told mine was around 140K....but NO oil pressure (found a wiped cam bearing) but otherwise....everything looked good (rod/main bearings, cylinder crosshatch) So my rebuild was pretty basic with just a dingleberry hone, new rings, ETC. after a good hot tank cleaning.

My last one had 240K on in and didn't need honing. In fact, I haven't ran across one yet that did need honing. I however am not a "junk yard LS" guy. All of mine get new rings, bearings, oil pump and timing set. Not worth the risk to me
