Default 650 HP setups? Help my father out...

So my father is redoing his 73 Z28 and wants LS motor, ofcourse he says he wants a 454 LSX. Thats 10k without any accessories. Now I know how to make power boosting and efi but when it comes to this setup im fairly clueless. So here is what he wants, 650 HP with a carburetor. Figured someone might be able to point him in the right direction. I told him lets get like a ls3 and stroke it out put a set of AFRs on it.. But im just guessing.. Any good crate builders out there for decent price?

Oh and pump gas I should add this is his street car.

Thanks

You can get to 10 grand pretty easy trying to build a 650 HP engne. You can get to 650+ HP with a Stroked 6 liter or LS3, but it will have to be a pretty rowdy engine. The 454 will do it more easily.

Here is a 675 HP engine for sale in the classifieds that will give you an excellent blueprint for what it takes to make that kind of power:

Now 525-550 HP on the other hand can be pretty easy to make with a 6 liter and 600 HP is easy to make with a Stroked 6 liter or stroked LS3.

A 454 LS can make 800 on pump gas, so 650 is easy.

I have a Texas Speed 418 (LS3 stroker) with AFR 205 Cat Head VIC Jr intake and Holley DP Carb with MSD controller and Speed Hound Long Tubes... 246/256 112 LSA cam

Guessing I make in the 600s Never Dynoed... But I can run 10s on Motor with 3.36 gear at 3500 stall. PUMP GAS.

I believe this is the best BANG for your BUCK... I have half the cost of a crate 427 motor in my motor.

I dont know what mine makes for power, but its a carb'd 6.0 with custom cam, milled stock heads and sbe. Car weight is 2920. I thought it weighed 2850 to 2875, but we just weighed it. Its been 6.28

If I were to guess, I would say both yours and my 6 liter would make between 525-550 HP on an engine dyno.

Junkyard 5.3 and put money into a home brew turbo kit and dominator efi. Done! If the 5.3 pops, go to the dollar general and buy another.

For what it's worth my l92 6.2 with true ls3 heads milled just a tad for clean up, lsr281 EFI CAM, vic jr carb intake and holley 850 reworked by aed pulled the wheels a couple feet on the street in a 3000# 68 camaro with a stock 4l80e 3000 stall, 12 bolt 4.11 gears. Easily a 10 second car but to be honest I never had it at the track.

Just an idea of what cam in a 6.0L does.
