Default Cam selection for my lq4 build

Hi all,

I'm building what has got to be the most undesirable 6.0 ever. Picked up an iron head long crank 6.0 for next to nothing. Bought some 853 bare heads for almost nothing too. The plan is to throw the iron head guts into the 853's and run a carb and a big cam. This motor is going into my split bumper 73 Camaro. My goal was initially to make 500hp, but it looks like the only way I could get there with this combo is to rev really high, which may not be what I want for the street. I'd love for this thing to get into the 11's, though I think I'm ambitious. I also bought a completely custom "super t-10" from a late 90s cup car. 3:08 rear gear with a posi. I will run drag radials.

Ultimately this combo will have a bit higher than normal compression. It will see the streets in summers and the track a couple times a month. I love big overlap nasty cams. Anyone have any cam/intake suggestions ? I would prefer if the cam was a COMP because I can get a real good price on them. Cam options are endless and I'm lost here. I have no problem fly cutting the pistons as I will have the heads off anyways.

That 3.08 gear is not going to help you in reaching your 11 second goal. I can't remember what the first gear is in the old Super t-10. What is it?

Man, I would still want a 4.11 minimum.

Ya. I grabbed the 308 posi rear because it was so cheap ! Perhaps 11s is ambitious, but low 12s would be cool!

I think a TH350 is 2.43, or is that the 400 ? brain fart
Your 2.88 and 3.08 may not be that bad, although not a full all out assault.
Anywho, I'd run what you have and see how close you can get. (thinking 12.5ish @ 110)

Thanks all.

I'm basing my estimates off what my old car ran. 98 camaro with a stock LS6, T56 and 343 posi rear. Very close in weight to my 73. That car went 12.9@116 with a garbage 2.2 60' and a nearly blown trans. I'm hoping to pickup close to 100hp on that car with my 73. 73 will also have performance suspension, trac bars and better tires, along with a good trans. Ultimately a 12 second car is still pretty quick !

I ditched the LS1 heads and bought a set of L92s. Need to figure out now how much to mill off them, if I need to flycut and what cam to run ! Anyone here have experience with a good carbd l92 setup ?
