Default Advice on aftermarket cylinder head upgrade

I have a sbe LQ4 with stock 799 heads. Car runs low 11's as is. Tossing around the idea of maybe purchasing a set of aftermarket heads (cathedral port only) to give it a little more grunt.

Compression is about 10.2 to 1

Cam specs
230 238 @ .050
lobe separation 108
lift 601 601

Converter 3500

750 Demon with Vic Jr

I'm a little hesitant about dropping some cash on a set of aftermarket cylinder heads. Will my setup really benefit that much? Or would I be better off just finding a set of factory heads that have been worked over?

I recently put some PRC 2.5 heads on my motor. They are a pretty good price if you're on a budget. I changed to these heads because the guides on my stock ones were worn and I told myself if I ever took these heads off I would put some better heads on. They are a nice upgrade but it's not a HUGE seat of the pants difference. What I'm saying is if my factory heads would have been fine I would have used that money elsewhere. (Power adder) I can't speak for a high $$$ head because I have never run one.

So many choices....trick flows are really nice...but I've heard success stories from buying new CNC heads, as well as guys having good results getting their factory heads ported and refreshed

The PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 heads are looking to be the best bang for the buck, and best for MY situation as far as I can tell. I like the PRC 225 as cast heads as well, but I am wondering if those might be too big/flow too much for my combo and possibly hurt performance? I sent them an email asking for input on that.

if you were to get your 799 heads ported they will be the same size and flow similiar as the prc 225 head.

That is correct. I've been in contact with Texas Speed. They stated the 799 stage 2.5 LS6 head is pretty close to the 225 head. They did mention the 225's can offer better PTV clearance though compared to the 799's.

I have to find out what my clearances will be with my custom cam, head choice, and gasket. I'd like to get at least 10.5-1 at minimum. Right now I'm at 10.13 static and 8.06 dynamic with untouched 799's on my stock LQ4 and a .051 gasket.
