Default My new project 72 vega

Picked up a new project a few weeks ago and am thinking LS swap in the future for it. Its a all original 1972 Vega GT with 10,400 original miles on it! Currently has the factory 2300 cc 4 banger with a 4 speed on the floor. A/C and heater both work as well. Plans are to make a fun driver/grudge runner with it. Its going to be a craigslist budget build and would be carbed for sure. At this time thinking either L33 or maybe LQ4. Not wanting to turbo it right away would prefer NA with a lil nitrous. Either way will be fun! As of now going to mob it 4 cyl status lol

My very first car!
Same color and everything.
It was going to be my "10 second" Vega.
But the 4 cylinder imploded... and i had to sell it.

Good luck

Nice find. If you do not end up using it for your project let me know i have been looking for a nice clean 71-73 Vega GT. I just want one as a daily driver.

I am Jelly! I would love to build an LS powered Vega. I gave my last two to my younger brother who destroyed them. Hindsight....... LOL

An L33 could make a nice little hotrod motor for it. I will be following your progress.

That's a awesome car to have. I agree, I would probably see how much I could get for it and pick one up that is already set up for abuse with suspension to get ahead faster.

When i hadmine it was only 4 years old, paid $250 4 it.
I would imagine it needs a chasis and pretty much everyting else being that old.

Thanks guys I thought about that too. Not sure what I could get for it. Would have to make a good off it to make it worth it. Most stuff out there is big tire race car stuff. Just not wanting that at all.

My mom had this exact same car, color too. My dad bought it for her brand new. That thing looks cherry other than needing some paint. No way I would cut that bad boy up. You will have twenty grand in it so fast your head will spin. There are quite a few Rolling chassis, or complete drag cars for sale out there, with top of the line parts. You can save a ton of money. I do not have facebook but a friend of mine showed me a 69 Camaro with a big block, 9 inch, TH400 with brake, big tires, strange adj shocks and breaks, and a lot more for $8000.00. The guy says it runs 8's in the 1/4 and will take you to the track to prove it. Just to give you an example. But if you do decide to build it. Best of Luck. Looks like it will be a fun project.

Not to bust your bubble...but no way in hell are you going to buy a running 69 Camaro, let alone one the runs 8's (even in the 1/8th), for $8000.

If you do....let me know.

No plans to cut it up. Just a engine/trans/rear end swap lol. The car does have a lil bit of cancer in the cowl area that will need to be addressed. Again dont want a big tire race car that I will use a few times a year at the track. I want a fun streetable small tire car. It will go to my work...to the track....and just general fun street stuff.

Do you think a 26x8 (255/60/15) will fit under there?

I was wrong on the rear end, and trans, but still very good. I see this kind of stuff all the time. Look around yourself, you will be shocked.

That does sound like a fun build. You will have fun for sure. Make sure to post some pics so we can check it out along the way, or at least when its done. Would definitely like to check it out. Enjoy
