What's the quickest anyone has run in this class?

I think you should be able to go 11.2's with budget parts at that race weight.

Right now after 2 races we are the quickest with 11.78. I am all ears on how to make a 5.3 run 11.20s on a budget of 1500 dollars or less on pump 91 gas weighing 3000 pounds.
Because as soon as I pull out on to the track and click off an 11.20 that motor will be claimed.

Out of curiosity what will it take motor wish to run 11.20. Can a 5.3 do it N/A of course no power adder.

Big cam, good stock heads, I would do 5.7 or 6.0 for the bore, 4500-5200 stall, gear, slick etc, I would run 3 speed auto

For every .1 off your 60', you should see .2-.3 off your 1320'.

I would work that 60' hard and see where that takes you.

Big stall and a lot of rpm's ?

You don't want to go too fast. You will just become the classes engine supplier. At $1500, it might cover the replacement costs, but not the time and energy of going out and finding and or procuring another engine, camshaft, springs etc.

I have a PTC 5200 convertor and bringing the car out at 3200 on the transbrake. This is a glide trans
I still think the small 220/220 camshaft it the reason the 60ft is slow.

That is exactly what I don't want to do, everybody has done said as soon as I bring a 6.0 out it is getting claimed. After this race I am going with a 5.7 I have but I need to figure out what heads to put on it. Really don't want to put 243 on it. I have a set just hate to put them on a claimer motor.

I thought the dish piston 5.3 with the 706 heads and 220 cam was running fairly descent.

I just had an idea. Put a metal flap in the oil pan and hook it up to a choke cable. After the race is over pull the choke cable so the metal flap hits the crank counterweight. It will make a hell of a racket and it will sound hurt so no one will want to claim it

LOL, that would work too.
Cost me around $4500 only to find a cracked flex plate

Pretty stupid looking back now and not looking closer then. But, nothing a new long block didn't fix by no oil leaks, 150-200 more HP, and could spin my 38's on the street with ease

had a great day of racing, had a new best with the little 5.3 and also took home the 500 bucks and plaque.
learned that the motor likes to come out at a higher RPM on the trans brake and also rejetted the carb just a touch.
Bringing the car out at 4,000 RPM compared to the 3200, jetting went from 73/75 to 75/76, wide band was 13.2, this is where it was running it's best.

60ft was 1.63, 1/8mile was 7.33@93.59, 1/4 mile was 11.54@117.04

Comparing today race with last months race, the car picked up
.04 in the 60ft
.15 et and 1.5 mph at the 1/8th
and .28 et and 3 mph in the 1/4.

we started the day out with the jetting at 76/79 (NO power valves) the reading was 12.3. Car ran 11.71@115 then I put the jetting at 75/76 the car ran 11.54@117 and was 13.2.

I think if I bring the car out at 4500 it will pick up but I think I am pressing my luck on the stock case third member on the 9"

Still plugging along with the little 5.3, my driver she has ran 4 races so far and has 1 win, 2 runner ups, and 1 1st round loss.

Last Saturday was an 1/8 mile race so I put some 5.14 gears in the car to make it run all out on the 1/8th.

Car ran a best of 7.18 @ 94.80mph this was with really good air.
In the heat of the day the car was running 7.27 @ 93.

Next month we will be back on the 1/4 mile, would love to see the car run 11.40 but I doubt it, because of the heat.

Bringing the car out at 4500 now and it seems to really like it.

Everybody says that about the 3 speed.

At this time I don't want to drop a 1,000 on a 3 speed.
Maybe one day but not right now.
