Update on the coupe

Went to the track tonight for the first time since the last outing where it was popping and sputtering all motor.

Relocated the lowers, new shocks, new fuel pump, new filter since the old one was full of foam from the fuel cell, removed said foam, etc.

One pass before the rain started. Wheels up a half foot and banging and popping was still there.

So, traction is there but the blasted engine stumble is still there.

I’ll go trough the carb this weekend and see what’s up. Hopefully I find it.

Odd enough is the car doesn’t do the shuddering and popping on the street beating the hell out of it.

I have 2 more days of the track that I can tune before Texas heavy hitters, so I hope I figure it out so I can run.

You're probably not seeing on the street because it's not loading the engine like a sticky track does. Besides carb it could also be ignition related. You'll see higher cylinder pressure with increased traction.

Any chance it could be a weak or broken valve spring?

toxic99 01-27-2018 07:04 AM

You have jet extensions?

ZONES89RS 01-27-2018 08:27 PM

Yea, have jet extension. Didn’t do it before. But, I’m dumb and have not opened the car . Was going to today but got too late with the family.

Rebuilt the carb, reloaded the grounds from the heads for the coils to the battery. Gained 2 Mph and banged out less. Said fuck that and sprayed it a few times. She was rolling once she hooked but the 60 foot times were garbage. Shit has me pretty hot and bothered.

fast89stang 01-29-2018 11:41 AM

I would try to borrow a carb, to see if its there.

ZONES89RS 01-29-2018 10:20 PM

Mag do that. If I don’t figure it out pretty soon, I’ll just go fuel injected.

ZONES89RS 01-30-2018 07:28 PM

It occurred to me the issue didn’t exist before I installed the scoop. So, I’ll try Friday without the scoop and if that works I’ll try the scoop with the small air filter that I use on the street to keep debris out.

God forbid that the weather not be a big ol pile of shit. Would really like to test this thing.

jaywill 02-17-2018 01:42 AM

ZONES89RS 02-17-2018 02:17 PM

Relentless rain.....

Looks like there is a chance to hit the track tomorrow FINALLY.

lol i know how that is !

ZONES89RS 03-01-2018 10:38 AM

Trying to see if I can find a buyer for the intake, carb and ignition. May go fuel injected if I can. Hate to say it but I’m out of patience.

Doug G 03-01-2018 06:26 PM
