I'd look into a mill plus a P&P on stock 317's as well as a decent cam....which then will lead to some fly-cuts.

MAYBE THIS ONE but no cutting. (and always check PTV clearance)

But depends on the rest of the combo...

Which is ????

If you want to get to around 10:1 cr mill the 317's about .030" or stock 243's on a Lq4.

As far as the Lq4, they are dish pistons which somebody correct if I'm wrong..... but as far as ptv clearance even on a stock Lq4, when adding a bigger cam you still have to worry about the exhaust valve ptv due to the lip on the outer side of the piston....

The dished piston will afford some more piston-to-valve clearance, but the question is exactly how much? I have not had the opportunity to do a "valve-drop" measurement on an LQ4 or LM7. If someone was savvy enough to take this measurement for me, I can tell you how much you can mill the heads and what cams will fit. As of now, I figure all of my stock bottom end cams as is a flat top piston was being used.

I will be following this discussion close, I am somewhat in the same situation all the way down to the fact that I will be installing it into my '65 El Camino. I have a stock 98k mile LQ4 that I will freshen up with a decent hone job (hopefully), crank polish, new rings and gaskets/seals. I am trying to figure out if I will go with a carb., or find everything I need to keep it injected. I am an old school SBC guy who is new to the whole LS scene.

Good luck with your project!

Ron
