what is traction controlon a Camaro

what is traction controlon a Camaro i was looking at a 2002 Camaro, 4sp auto, and it has an option, traction control-other than the right foot, what is traction control-does the ECU detect the wheels spinning, and cut power or something
i dont think their talking about posi rear as traction control
