Default LT-1 1998 Camaro or Firebird?

I have been told that a small number of early 1998 model year Camaro and Firebirds were produced w/the Gen II 350" LT-1 motor, rather than the 346" LS-1 motor. Has anyone heard this, or in fact, seen one of these cars? I know the LT-1 350 supposedly ended w/1997 F-Body models. Thanks in advance. WJ

No there are no 98 Camaro/Firebird's w/ LT-1's.The LS-1 was already out in the 97 Vette unless the factory screwed up but i dout that.

OK, thanks for the help....I also thought that all '98 Camaros/Firebirds were LS-1 346" motored cars and LT-1 350" F-bodies went away at end of 1997 production year...HOWEVER, NHRA allows the LT-1 350" motor to be run in the Stock Eliminator classes in 1998 Camaro/ and Firebirds. I know of a number of '98 model year cars running this LT-1 combo in NHRA in "C" and "D" stock and stock/automatic classes. Ask around, or check rulebook yourself....Regards, WJ

If anything i would say they would run LT-4 motors but a LT-5 would have been very nice.If u ever read the book on the LS-1 history it tell how GM decided if they were going to the DOHC motor or stay w/ the push rod motor were they put the LT-5 in one Vette and the LT-4 in the other and did not tell them which car had which motor and they choose the LT-4 over the LT-5.

LOL. I believe it was Hot Rod's article on the LS1 when it was revealed in late '96 for the '97 C5s where one of the GM LS1 development engineers was quoted saying something to the effect that "a bunch of us old-school pushrod guys were determined to show the DOHC panseys how well we could do w/ a clean slate, resulting in a much simplier, cam-in-block pushrod engine that performed just as good power-wise and MPG-wise as any DOHC engine AND was cheaper to mass produce."

There were NO '98+ f-bods w/ LT1s installed. However, GM did build several '96 and '97 Camaro (and apparently at least one Firebird) w/ LS1s as test & development "mules". I'm pretty sure none of these were able to be licensed for the road except by the manufacturer for testing purposes.
