I never looked at how mine (factory) is attached. If I
were given nothing but tape I'd be looking to back it
up. If you want it on there forever, prep the surface
with a decent solvent to make sure no wax is left.
3M makes some bad-*** urethane marine adhesives
if you don't trust tape. But it will be on there for life
if you go that way.
There's tape, and there's tape. The kind GM uses for
assembling cars and the kind they sell you at Office
Depot. If you don't know which came with the kit,
might be worth buying the best.
