Abs ring fell off of my carrier?

Abs ring fell off of my carrier? Hey guys I have a moser 12 bolt on my 02 SS. So I decided while it's down over the winter to tear it down and paint it. So I take the cover off and see the abs reluctor wheel is just flopping around and I found one of the paws from the covers pre load bolts chewed to hell laying in the bottom. Anyone ever heard of this? How would this happen? And is it ok if I just take the ring off and run it? Abs is disabled anyway. Thanks
