Default 1996 z28 camaro backfire issue after hiway speeds

I bought a Camaro from florida. Regardless I trailer that back because it needed bearings. And now I'm having a heating issue as it may seem, due to the warmer weather. So what happened one day was I was driving it for about an hour when suddenly, the performance was gone, and the car became very rough to drive popping out of the exhausT. I let it cool down until it was completely cool, and started it up and it drove like a champ, for a good 20 to 40 minutes. Then the same issue. it is not burning any amount of smoke, and I check the oil, and it is clean as hell. Not a single leak on the engine or tranny. What could this be I am stumped. I replace the thermostat the radiator cap and the water pump thinking it was something heat related. Now I am feeling as if it is something sparked related, dead spark? computer related? Or? I am really lost and need some answers. Thank you

make sure that new water pump is not leaking into the opti-spark distributor behind the water pump.
