Unhappy Really high oil pressure? :(

I have a '98 base camaro, with just over 100k miles on it, rebuilt engine about 3k miles ago. On cold crank, the oil pressure gauge reads at around 60psi, but when im on it, it jumps to 90-120psi. I recently put Castrol GT - High Mileage 10w-40 in it. I thought that with a less viscosity oil it might make the pressure rise. any thoughts or ideas?

It could just be the pressure sending unit giving a false reading. My oil pressure is a bit "high" as well, but it doesn't seem to be running poorly. I think I may just be getting a false reading.

Just keep an eye on it. Does it go down at all after driving it for awhile?

That's about where mine is at on start up, but it always goes down at idle after some driving ...not up (unless it is in motion).

So, is that normal for this type of car then? The high pressure?

I had high oil pressure on my daily driver Firebird (3.8L v6). The oil pressure was so high that it was blowing out the oil filter gasket and the car ticked so bad.

First, I changed the valve and spring in the oil filter housing, replaced the oil sending unit and changed the oil... fired it up. Still high oil pressure and the noise was still there.

I figured I had a blockage (thus the noise). So I went to NAPA and picked up some NAPA Engine Flush. Ran that through the engine oil for 5 minutes, changed the oil and fired it up. The noise went away but still had high oil pressure.

I hooked a mechanical oil pressure gauge up and the gauge was way off. So I just mounted the gauge in the A/C vent. Problem solved and the oil pressure is good now lol.
