Default My 01 SS Thread.

Hey everyone i figured i would start a thread about my car and the few changes i have made through out the years.

Summer 2010 i was searching for a f-body. I really fell in love with them and knew i wanted one. I looked at a 95 z28 Lt1 that had 120k miles on it with front end damage and a bad fuel pump. Owner wanted too much for it so i went and looked at a 96 z28 lt1 with 90k miles on it. Body was in really good condition it was a red/orange color that looked killer. Owner said the fuel pump was starting to go on it though. I offered him 5k for it but he wouldn't take it. So i continued my search. I finally found a 2000 z28 ls1. 65k miles, dark blue. Female owner was friendly at first and i talked her down to 8k. Was planning on buying it but the husband started being a jerk. Cant really remember exactly what was said but eventually i told him to go pound sand. This whole time i was watching a 2001 Camaro SS online. Each month the price would drop 1000 dollars. One night me and my girlfriend were looking at it and the price went down again. She convinced me to go take a look at it after work the next day. I said what the hell, its still a lot more money than i wanted to pay for a first muscle car but ill take a look. As soon as i laid eyes on her i HAD to have it. I was everything i wanted. Black on Black, leather, T-top, 6-speed, SS package. I put a 500 dollar hold on it. Talked him down on the price and two days later it was sitting in my driveway. Here are some dealer pictures.

The car only had 10,500 miles on it when i bought it. The dealer told me it was a slp optioned SS. Me not knowing much about these cars i believed him. It had a slp lid, slp y pipe, Loudmouth 1 cat-back, 4.10 gears, SLP strut tower brace and a slp MAF. I Didn't see any slp content sticker on the door jam so i called slp to find out. They confirmed it was a real SS car number 5802 but it did not receive any additional slp content. I didn't care much it was still the car i wanted. First thing i bought was a car cover for it. Before i knew it winter was here.

When i took it out I just wanted to make sure the maintenance was up to date so i started using mobile 1 0w40, changed the plugs to ngk tr-55's, changed wires to msd connectors, change the Diff fluid and fuel filter. After that i hit the dyno to see what my numbers were i got 306 and 312 on a mustang dyno. I was pretty happy. I knew i was going to leave it stock for a little while so i got it tuned . Car felt a lot better on the street, better drive-ability and gas mileage went up. Engine was smoother as well. Slowhawk did a great job. My peak power only went up a little bit to 312 and 322 but the average power was up quite a bit.
Here is the dyno video.

Stock Antenna had to go. I'm all for making the car look its time period but that 4 foot antenna was a joke. Went on Ebay and bought this shorty antenna for 20 bucks. Reception isn't as good but good enough. I hardly ever listen to music or the radio in the camaro. I just listen to the news because current events interest me.

My car came Equipped with a hurst Short Throw Shifter. I believe the RPO code is BBS. Although it felt decent the 2-3 shift didn't feel confident. Ill be honest i missed third and went into first a few times. Didnt engage first entirely though. I didn't want this to happen again so i bought a MGW short throw shifter. Honestly one of my favorite things i have done to this car. Throws are more precise and goes into gear with confidence. I have had this shifter for about 3 years now and i haven't missed third or any gear for that matter.

Here is it.

Out with the old

In with the new

This is how it sits now

Ill keep the updates coming as time allows me.

Got the CAMARO rear lettering and put it on. Not bad Not bad.

Also Got a Show and go license plate holder. It slides under the car but if i get pulled over and need to put it back up it just slides forward and pops up. Not bad for 40 bucks.

Popped up from a distance.

Sorry for the quality of pictures a lot of these were taken on an older phone.

So next i thought i would follow the red black theme and get a hood scoop insert. I Didn't like it at all. Took it off after a few days. Maybe in the future ill try again but with a lot darker shade of red.

I was bored so i decided to do the " free Ram Air " mod.

Went for a little drive after, obviously didn't feel anything different. It was just a nice summer day and i wanted to do something outside with the car.

My third break light had a crack in it where the right screw went in. It started dangling like this.

New one looks much nicer. Good fitment and is LED.

Also notice i got ride of the slp badge. Looks cleaner imo

I took my Throttle body off and sent it to slowhawk to get it ported. He also did the bump stop mod to let the blade open up all the way.

Putting it back on.

Sea foamed my car. Only had a little smoke come out for about a minute.

Quick photo of my friends clean lt1 and the SS

I dont have any photos of the Ram air or the shift ****. But after doing the ram air mod and ported throttle body the car absolutely has better throttle response. As for pulling harder, its tough to feel it but it did seem to pull harder at higher speeds.
