Default LS3 crate swap 2002 Camaro Dyno results. 450whp/440tq

Finally got her all broken and went to the dyno today. Jeremy Formato did the tuning work and the car drives great and obviously sounds stock. Jeremy was shocked at the numbers it put down and needless to say I'm happy as well. Motor is all stock with FULL bolt ons... For reference a 1le had just put down 410 on the same dyno with bolt ons. Just goes to show ya slapping headers and an intake kit on it doesnt mean everything. AFR was done through the tail pipe on the graph and was around 12.5 at the collector so we probably could have leaned it out a touch but decided to keep it safe.

And then finally here is the old graph from the cammed ls6. This a CLASSIC case of where peak numbers dont tell the whole story. The ls3 absolutely owns the ls6 in the torque department.

The ls3 dyno also was done today in summer florida heat so around 95 degrees and rainy outside....The ls6 was done in low 70's temps and almost no humidity.

ok sig should be updated now. In the future I think I might go to a formato ported ls3 intake for 250 bucks with a core exchange its hard to beat and it should be worth 5-7 on this combo. formato said I shouldnt need to tune for it either as its a bolt on and go deal

Dat tq redbird!! Nice job. How's it feel compared to the 6?

Now you need a round of intake testing. Some 1.8 rockers......I bet you can get it over 460whp. It will probably free up with more miles on it too.

Hio, what rockers you recommend for an LS3? I'm thinking about getting a C6 next year after I sell the Vert.

I'd do Yella Terra's to keep the moi down. HS will work and that's what hio runs but I feel if you can get the YTs they'd be easier on parts. Anymore plans for the SS?

Harland sharps or YT's would be fine. There are some others that would work well to.

Yea...I would like to do a crank scraper, 4" maf and x pipe exhaust. But I need to get a real good handle on my uncles 56 Bel Air first.

So how's dat bitch feel???!!!

I was going to get some mast heads but decided to hold off. I'm officially done with it once I I stall the roll cage. Next year after I get married I'm moving to northern cali. I'll but the Vert up for sale next spring and try to snag a C6. My car will never pass emissions out there and to be honest I don't enjoy it unless I'm at the track with it.

I've read that the aluminum rockers break. Mostly the YT ones.

Lol it feels damn good. The torque is just flat out nasty. Up top it pulls like the ls6 as the hp isnt much different. BUT hitting it from a low roll or dead stop is much more violent. And when you shift at the redline it falls almost back to peak tq so it feels like the next gear is pulling harder than the last lol.

Crank scraper worked fine on this one but I had to get pretty firendly with a grinder. specs call for .02-.06 clearance and most of mine were in the .02-.04 range and some places even had contact. .02 felt just a little to close for comfort so I opened everything up into the .04-.06 range and clearanced where it needed.

LOL you know how many times I said I was done? The emissions things I get but the enjoyment thing, sadly thats the result of the huge cam lol.

Well most of the aftermarket rockers are AL lol. The yt ones used to break because they had some design flaws the gen III design after 2010 doesnt have issues. If I was going to run RR's they would be my choice.

For right now I need to get some loose ends with this tied up. The car has a small vibration at speed so I'm going to check the pinion angle this week to see if the k member caused a shift. I also want to do a new set of plug wires since my msd's are 5 years old lol and the metal clips are pretty loose on the plugs.

Thinking about going to a set of granatelli's. Idk if I buy the HP gain but several people have showed something and even so they looks badass and will last forever.

After that I want to get the ls3 intake ported by formato. The fast on an ls3 is ehh and a ported ls3 will usually be right there with a fast if not a little above it. The valvetrain will probably get addressed last. Only because idk what I want to do. If I go to 1.8 RR's I have to change the springs and I eventually may want to put a blower on it and in that instance the RR's are useless. I'm honestly not sure if they would even gain much on an ls3 since the factory cam already has .551 lift but the duration is pretty small.

If I dont go that route I'll probably keep it budget friendly and do 3/8 pushrods with a BTR trunion upgrade.

Overall though right now I'm pretty happy I took a ride in a FBO 5.0 and while it had power up top the tq in the meat of the powerband was pitiful. People always look at peak numbers for racing and thats not everything. Making a solid flat tq curve from idle up to the redline is just as important. The way this thing falls back into almost 440ft lbs of torque when it shifts is badass lol. If someone kicks your *** from the line at 1000 rpm to 4500rpm with low end tq good luck catching them when you come into the powerband. Provided you both make similar top end power

With that said guys what do you think I should shift it at? It seems to fall off towards 65 so I was thinking about 64 for right now?

I didnt notice before but it looks like something odd happened with the dyno reading around the 6300 range there lol

Cool man.....sounds good.

I think you're right on with your shift points red. It's starting to taper off. When you gonna get her to the track?

Btw....I drove a bolt-on 5.0 the other day too. I think it had headers/intake/catback....if it had a tune then the rev limit was stock. I was not impressed. It felt like a 4v 4.6 that just revved out further. Just kind flat feeling.

I have seen them break before to. But never on my stuff. But my valvetrain is pretty light being ls6 stuff so I don't have to run much spring.

Hio, did you tune your setup after the 1.8's or were they just a bolt on and go deal

I'd probably set the limiter @ 6800.....just to avoid hitting it.

I dyno'd it cause I changed the injectors also and went from the fast 90 to the fast 102. So not exactly a direct comparison but everything was tuned well before and for my application I'm pretty sure the fast 90 may have been a little better than the 102.....splitting hairs there though.

I would think you could bolt the 1.8's on and be fine.
