A real steal
Hey all,
Last week I picked up a '98 Z28 for $6700 with only 28,500 miles! It has MMS (Morgan Motosports) stage II heads with their 224 cam. Mac mid-length headers/cats and Borla exhaust. (Anyone know much about MMS?)
Its a black, hard top, 6 speed (no grinds). Perfect leather seats(no cracks), power window/locks, but still rocking the '80's tape deck. Sweet
She's not perfect in the paint department, but that's just cosmetic.
The car originally came from New Jersey and was sold in 2012. I believe it went through hurricane Sandy, so now that's her new name, Sandy. The carpet smells like a musty basement and the engine is rusty/corroded in weird places.
But all in all, I'm happy I found it.
BTW-I found it on CL, then drove 2 1/2 hr to get it.

Yeah, if it was a flood car then that explains the rust/odor issues and the price. Is it a salvage/flood title?
Those heads and headers were common items back in the early '00s, but not any more and haven't been for quite a while now, so it sounds like an older build. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it wasn't damaged by flood waters.

The title is clean. It could have been an open window and hood in a rain storm. (for weeks) Who really knows??
I believe the build was done back in 2000 or so. I actually have all the receipts from it. I also have the GM build sheet!
Oh, and the A/C leaked out and the clutch pedal sticks to the floor. Those 2 are easy fixes though.

I agree, the car has low miles and what sounds like a nice build (plus), but also sounds like it has several issues that shouldn't be present on a 28k mile car (negative). If the title is clear then that deal is OK, but it sounds like there is some work to be done fixing the odor and the various cosmetic and mechanical issues.
MMS had some good H/C packages back in the early days of LS1s. Those old 224 range cams are still great street choices IMO, with robust powerbands and no need to rev to the moon for great performance. Depending on the exact cam specs and the valve springs used, you might want to do a spring swap at some point soon.
