Default Scan tool problem

Scan tool won't read trouble codes. I read on here to check the courtesy / cigarette lighter fuse. Is ther two fuses because only the aux outlet works not the cigarette lighter outlet.

Yes they will have separate fuses. Generally the ODB2 Port piggy backs the Cigarette lighter fuse.

Google for diagrams and you should find the culprit.

Both fuses are good. But the scan tool still won't communicate with the ECM. Any ideas were to start. I know im going to be chasing electron's around.

Simple suggestion to start with. Have you verified the scan tool works to begin with?

Yes I tried mine and two others Advance Auto and a friend's new Snap On. I had looked into this 6 months ago and I wasn't getting 12 volts at one of the pins on the ALDL connector that supposed to " I think " power the scan tool to let the ECM communicate with the scan tool. Then the check engine went out until the other day. I guess like you said I need to get some diagrams and trace out some wires. I was just hoping there was maybe a common problem.
