Default T56 Trans Help

I am about to trade my almost restored C10 for a 02 SS 6 Spd, when riding with the owner for a test ride he was explaining how 3rd gear is like missing, he said it is the shift fork in 3rd. This will be my first LS car so I am new to this, would it be a exspenive fix if that's all that is wrong?

It'll require the transmission being removed and rebuilt, which if done by a shop will cost you a pretty penny. If you can do it all yourself it wouldn't be too bad. Personally I'd pass on it as that's a good indicator that the car has been beat on.

Thanks for the response, I figured that is the reason it's gone, if I had the trans fixed or I figured it out would everything else be okay to go you think?

Depends, how was the rest of the car? Mine came with a similar trans issue as well as a host of other problems. I had the trans rebuilt professionally and did new hydraulics + clutch I thing I was out the door for ~$3200 parts and labor for just the trans. If I had to do it again I'd slap a magnum in. 1 bad gear is a good sign that they may be other problems inside the trans.

If the fork was messed up it wouldn't go into 4 either or be VERY difficult. If it's just 3rd gear the gear itself is probably screwed.

I would pass on it if I were you because tranny work is very expensive as others have mentioned.
