Default Odd clunk when starting from a stop or slowing

I have a 1997 camaro automatic z28 and it has a weird thud or clunk sound when I slow down or start from a stop. Also if I start accelerating and then take my foot of the gas as its about to shift it really thunds. I know it can't be the transmission mount because I replaced it with a polyurethane one. However when I bought the car the transmission mount was broken so it was driven for a while with a broken mount. Could that have caused damage. The transmission usually has a firm hard 1 to 2 shift but other than that I think it's good.

Could the clunk be the transmission downshifting? Or could it be a bad bushing or something. When it happens from a start it feels like to car is really slow then a second later it thus and takes off
Thanks, sorry for the long post

Check caliper bolts, axle bolts, all suspension bolts, torque arm bolts (that brace that runs next to the axle) Maybe there is a loose bolt and things are shifting around...

Find anything? I just realized I said to look at the torque arm running parallel to the axle.... I meant drive shaft.. Sorry. But anyway..

I wouldn't dismiss that theory... see if you can move it around by hand maybe...

Thanks I tighted up some bolts but also replaced the Torque arm bushing I think it was a combination and the clunk went away. The torque arm bolts in the differential were loose as well as some other things.

Thanks for all the help, problem solved

No prob!! That's awesome to hear!! I know you feel a ton better now that it's taken care of and the noises are gone.
