Default 1997 30th Ann. Z28 with corvette engine????

Hi newbie here. I just bought a Z28 30th ann Need help, I have been looking and I can't find any info on a Z28 with a grand sport engine. Things that are strange it has the 330hp tag on the back and hash stripes on the front fender and the engine covers say corvette and grand sport it has headers.

I can not find any info any where on this. Supposedly you can get the GS in an SS. Thanks for your help.

A quick search yielded me this -"A total of 979 30th Anniversary SS Camaros were made in 1997. An additional 108 30th Anniversary Camaro SS vehicles were modified by SLP to include a 330 hp (246 kW) version of the LT4 engine (108 total LT4 cars were made, 100 US, 6 Canadian & 2 prototypes). SS cars will have RPO code R7T." M

It would appear that the lt4 engines were left overs from the 1996 production year grand sport corvettes. That would explain the covers.

yes you are right. Only problem this is a Z28 not an SS. I can not find where it says this engine is in a Z28

Yeah I'm not sure because to get the actual lt4 it would seem it had to be an SS. The thread above may help and you can decode he cars vin.

I highly doubt it is a factory LT4. Those cars were extremely rare, desirable, and most are well recorded. If it doesn't have the RPO mentioned above, it is definitely not factory. More than likely someone just did an LT4 top end conversion. It was pretty popular to do back in the day.

The "factory" LT4 SS cars actually received the LT4 conversion at SLP, and only the SS cars went to SLP, so no Z28 would have received this conversion prior to hitting the dealer lot. In fact, even a correct factory LT4 SS will still show the LT1 RPO code and VIN digit as they didn't receive the LT4 conversion until after initial assembly.

I agree that this is likely a top end conversion done by a dealer or a private owner at some point.

I don't know too much, but I third that. Probably did an LT4 intake and put on the grand sport engine covers and throttle body plaque to dress it up a bit! That's about all you can do to make an LT1 look nice without fancy aftermarket parts.

Let's see some more pictures of the whole car and the interior!

The real LT4's got black composite valve covers instead of aluminum and roller rockers beneath them.

Those look like the magnesium valve covers that only came on the 92 corvette.
