Default How can I use the threaded port on the LS3 water pump?

My LS3 has a screw-in fitting where I'd like to install my analog temp gauge sender, but it doesn't seem to be normal pipe thread. It's very, very close but is it metric?

I don't have the flat boss on top, and my pump outlet is over to the driver's side.

Thanks,
Dave

It's M16 x 1.5 straight threads. You would have to tap it, probably to 1/2" NPT and run a reducer to 3/8" or you can try drilling and tapping that steel plug.

Thanks! I tapped it out to 3/8 NPT without even drilling it, seemed there was enough meat for that, and it looks like it'll be solid.

In case anyone wants to do it without tapping their pump, you can't go wrong with a bag of Metric-SAE adapters for $10 delivered!

If you can work with 1/8" Autometer also makes an oil pressure adapter, but you would also have to drill and tap it since temp senders usually come in either 3/8 or 1/4. Tapping the aluminum is way easier than tapping that brass.

The last sender I tapped (before this) was the big 13/16" temp sender on an iron intake manifold. Suffice to say, the small aluminum port as much easier...
