Default VATS is stopping me

So I am new to the site and getting a feel. I need help. I bought a 1992 RS Camaro that does not have the stock 305 L03 in it. Previous owner replaced ignition cylinder with a non chip cylinder. The security light is on and does nothing when I try to start it. Looking for the easiest cheapest way to get this baby to fire up. I have read that there are wires to splice to get it to start but not sure which ones? Would really like to know if I can delete the VATS from the car all together? Would really appreciate it fellas. thanks.

Ifnits like the 93 and ups there is a 2 pin connector off the steering column. Supposedly if you take the resistance from the chipped key you apply a inline resister of equal value inline completing the circuit. I just turned mine off with hptuners

Yeah, you can jump the two wires with a resistor that matches the key. It's also not that bad to reprogram the system to a new key so you should be able to get a resistor in the right range and teach the BCM to work with it. Should be helpful since it sounds like you don't have the original key. You can find all this with google searches, that's how I learned about it a while back. If the car worked with the current key that doesn't have the resistor then maybe they already modified it and the resistor they put in broke loose.

I tried with the current key its not bypassed yet. The guy that had before swapped the old ignition switch for the non vats switch. Said the Security light was on prior to him buying it. I'm determined to get this Camaro running. I will try jumping the 2 wires with a resistor and see what happens. I appreciate the help fellas.

Did he say he had it running? even if he switched key cylinders unless he bypassed it all the bcm would still be looking for the signal once it goes into switched ignition.

No its not running. It doesnt crank or do anything the security light only flashes. Is there a good site to replace the BCM? Can I get BCM that doesnt have vats so as to delete it?

92's didn't have a BCM, that was introduced in 96. You'll probably get more help over on thirdgen.org and maybe Google. I found this within a minute.

Didn't know when the BCM started, ops. Should still be able to learn in the resistor and it should be the cheapest way to get it running.
