project LowCasharo: LT1 to genI swap&build thread Hey guys, relatively new to this forum but figured I'd start a build thread for this project.
Picked up a 95 dark purple metallic z28 with 108k on the LT1/4l60e combo for cheap, like $250 cheap. Engine runs great and trans still shifts fine but it's using coolant through one of the head gaskets so the guy decided to dump it rather than fix it. So i swooped in and started doing some digging, I'm a mechanic by trade so doing the head gasket job is just my time but I wanted to get away from electronics on this one and just get a low buck car to tool around in. I had all the stuff to do this swap, engine, trans, ignition, etc etc...like 3 months ago and purged about 90% of it on CL and swap meets to free up space and get money for my c-10 build, but that's another thread one day.
At the moment the plan is to use a 1 piece rear roller motor with an lt4 hot cam in it i picked up off a buddy for some horse trading. On the look out for a set of vortec heads and all the other items for the swap but I've got some pretty resourceful leads, plus when your brother works at custom car shop things are a little easier to source.
Haven't done much yet besides a few burn out's before dropping the drive train out the bottom. I did put a set of stock boxed rear lower trailing arms with poly bushings i had laying around from my brothers g-body wagon BBC build. I'll post some pictures and updates along the way. I'm new to the fourth gen world, ex-wife had a 79 trans am and her dad has a true 69 z car but don't really get to mess with those any more. So any advice, tips, tricks, cheap mods, leads, bashing, etc are all more than welcome.
The whole exterior is plasti-diped black at the moment but I'll be pealing that all off in due time. Here's a few pics of the car and dropping the engine out, I disconnected the A/C but left the p/s hooked up and un-disturbed.
