LA 69 Camaro Lq4 build and swap! First Ls build!
#22
Nice start. I had the TKO-600 behind my small block, I was going to reuse it as well until I got the LS-1 T56 as a unit. I had the dreaded high RPM shift problem with the TKO. I called Tremec and they said to shift at a lower RPM, SMH. I am curious to see how that Liberty upgrade works for you. Great price on that Air Force. I would have done that in a heartbeat. I like that first cam choice you posted, a little more aggressive than mine but you have more cubes. I am putting down 400 so you should be about 450.

Sorry for the break, Got sent back to work,
Did manage to begin on the motor build, Clean my garage up for assembly, and run into some hangups.
1st hangup was after installing the crank and checking it with plastigauge i seem to be too tight. I am familiar that plastigauge will read a little tight most the time....
This was a 220k mile engine so i expected and or assumed a little more loose. Will have to switch to the .001 clearance bearing probably. But not definitely as i need to remove the crank and squeeze the bearings in the mains and take some real measurments.
Got called back to work before that so im bummed.
2nd hangup was realizing that the piston pins for the forged pistons i bought are .945 and my gen IV rods have .943 piston pins. Will probably have to hone the small end bushings or buy some rods.
So i still need to build my transmission. I can Probably use the standard size bearings in my LS1 i have sitting around.

Hey buddy, were you able to run that PTS523A3 wesico +4CC piston. 4.030 bore gen4 rods stock crank. Did you have to mill out the rods.
we want to do the same piston 370" build, with some prc 225 heads
thanks jason

Glad to see you're back on track, that Chevy orange is looking old school on the LS......nice!
Just wanted to ask about your connecting rods, I just picked up some SRP pistons that have the .945 floating pins and my rods have.943 ID small end as well. You mentioned that the shop re- bushed or did they hone to fit. My shop said they can hone to fit, could you let me know which route you went, thanks!

The bushings were re-honed. Beautiful fit.

Thanks guys,
Im currently hung up on the following.
A steam port setup. Thinking on running two ls6 type and tie them together, or is running with the rears blocked good enough. Need to measure the degrees of tilt.
A clutch engagement setup, Car is still set up for manual engagement. I installed the trans with a shift fork setup. Was thinking on push or pull hydraulic now im jut loosing time and money.
Throttle body. After starting to fab up throttle cable and stuff im not liking the look of it. Thinking on going to a dbw setup. Plus the harnesses i have are dbw except for a cut in half dbc i have extracted a few plugs from for the swap. Im at the end and starting to get tunnel vision.
Starter issues. Mainly i dont have a starter to try. somehow lost or gave away the old starter.
Alternator. Issues besides being ugly. looking at the cs series because appears to be smaller. Starting to regret truck accessory bracket.
Air conditioning.... should i or shouldent i.....
