Thank you
The old Z28 is coming along. Should have a set of chrome Z06 style wheels by the end of the month.

Too much car stuff last week and weekend so had to do a little project for my fiance this weekend...

Thanks to Mike Morris, I got a good deal on a replacement seat belt guides for my 02 Z28 and fixed this today.. I'm too lazy to pull the seat belt retractor. Cut between the screws holes and slipped belt into place.

I like seeing these threads about high mileage cars, I too bought a 99 z28 a few years ago off the original owner, 227k miles. Title still said jack Maxton Chevrolet $27,000. got the car for $3000, d&d viper prep t56, spec 2 clutch, b&m ripper shifter, exhaust cut out, free ram air mod, k&n filter, ported and descreened maf, ported throttle body, thunder racing 255 fuel pump, egr delete and I'm sure stuff I'm forgetting. car ran a best at full air pressure bfg kdw2 tires with a 2.2 60ft tire spin and a garage door opener falling into the shift boot causing me to miss third gear, 13.7 in the 1/4. the rest of the night was way worse tire spin and crappy shifts due to the clutch pedal wanting to stay down and consistent low 13.7 passes. the best pass was a dead hook and the only pass I could no lift shift on. car broke loose after 60ft and on every gear change, even barked on the missed third gear shift, once I got third. never got to go back with drag radials and a good working clutch hydraulic system. woulda been nice to see what she would ran. hit a sheet of black ice and totaled the car 231k miles. she did get to roll over 230k miles at 120mph while passing a state trooper barrack in my home town lol

Thank you Can Cams The old Z28 is a lot of fun - very happy with the car.

FbodyFreaks, I've seen and ran way worse 1/4 mile times with a new LS1 and a six speed I spun, hooked and almost stalled once in my 99TA getting 2.66 60ft and a 14.6 ET so I feel ya. My TA trapped 108+ with ease and with a real driver (not me) the TA could probably have got a 12.9x or 13.0

Sounds like you had a good car and with a good run a low 13 high 12 would have been possible. Sorry to hear hear about the car but a fascinating story.

Picked this in the Market place forth Z28 today...

Couple of things face happened that are slowing progress with the 02 Z28. Fiance had to have surgery recently so my time has been very much focused on her not the Z28. Found out I will have to have carpal tunnel surgery very soon as well. So my wrenching has decreased to mostly collecting parts for for the Z28.

Posted a thread to kick around the merits of a 383/400 big bore engine vs a 408 stroker for my application. Reliability being key. Budget doesn't allow for big bore stroker. See link below

4.125 Bore dry sleeve vs 4 inch crank stroker - most reliable?

Found a good deal on a slightly used unblemished 4inch Callies CompStar Crank for asking price of $500 and a slightly used sleeved ERL427 block for asking price $2000. Both were a he'll of a deal so it was time to get get off the fence and make a decision.

I was acutely aware having the SS hood & spoiler painted last month, getting the chrome Z06 rims, the powered coated calipers and STB basically were very close to the price of the sleeved ERL 427 block. I'm happier with all of that wrapped up vs another 19 cubes for Z28. However,a 427 build would have been wonderful but none of my prior part selection was based around doing that.

I decided to get the 4inch Callies crank and go for the 408 as my heads and other collection of parts best match for a 408 build eventually. The reluctor will have to be changed to 24x from 58x etc

Latest market place purchase from Cucky4. Can't wait for it to arrive With that said the new 408 is a long long long way off.

The crank arrived yesterday no thanks to UPS. The wooden box was wrapped in bubble wrap and inside of a card board box. Here's an example of how the clowns at UPS treat packages.

Note smashed end of wooden box at the bottom of picture. Its the same box in the post above after being shipped by UPS.

UPS was here!

The crank arrived undamaged from what I could tell.

I'm happy with the purchase. The 408 LS2 slowly moves one step closer to reality.

Get it checked for straightness. I hate shipping stuff for this reason

Excellent point, will definitely do get it check for straightness.
Will also be having the reluctor swapped.

I need get some bearings & a dial gauge to set the crank up in a spare block and do a rough test for straightness at some point.

Assembled a Harbor Freight work bench, for $64 it was a pretty decent deal, added a banner, sealed up exhaust ports. Did a few other minor things but won't be able to do much for the next few weeks after hand surgery.

Added a little bit of atmosphere with thr Pontiac banner.

Sealed up the exhaust port with a plate kit for the TA''s old LS1. Intakes are also sealed.

Almost completed

Update - Carpet tunnel surgery a few months ago stopped my car project in its tracks. The ensuing bills have prevented new parts etc. We had our first snow, so it looks like a wrap for this year for the Z28. Picking up the chrome style Z06 wheels at Thanksgiving so there's one bright spot.

Hopefully will be back on this early in the spring of 2020.

Update Time It's good to finally get to do a little car stuff again. My hands healed up nicely but a family health issue has kept me tied up nonstop for the last two months.

Picked up the used z06 style rims today. They need to be washed & detailed but I'm happy with them. Also scored a bonus BMR torque arm Fronts are 17 x 9 and rears are 18 x 10 per seller's info.

The rear tires are toast and one of the fronts. Intend to go 275's in front & either 295's or 305's in back depending on what's available.

Next stop car wash to hose off the grime

Quick wash at car wash...

Getting tires dismounted next.

Vent - Rant - Frustration Post

1) The work on the project 02 Z28 is going painfully slow since my carpel tunnel surgery last year. The medical expenses and being out of work for recovery set the project back.

2) As things started looking better in Nov of 2019 - I tweaked my knee badly getting out of the 72 Corvette. Five months later the knee is slowly improving after MRI & shots etc. Badly sprained & arthritis started etc but at least the pain is diminished some and I walk. Short version more medical expenses.

3) At Christmas both of my parents had serious health issues so i missed two months of work taking care of their needs. That ate the funds for the 02 Z28 project. My dad passed away and mom recovered.

4) The Covid19 issue forced shutdown so once again another financial hit plus the market has been blindsided by fear & panic selling.

5) I have a couple of weeks off now thanks to the Coronavirus. Go to crank 02 Z28 which has been put up for winter - dead battery. I missed disconnecting at Thanksgiving after screwing up knee. Pretty annoyed at the moment.

The 02 Z28 didn't start after charging battery but made a very nasty grinding sound...have visions of a shop saying

Seems like the perfect time...am sick of the potholes!

3-28-2020 edit

02 Z28 running & driving
Noise was the starter - its sounds a little rough

Think its time for me to accept this is going to be a mild bolt on car for the time being.

4-2-2020 edit
FTP lid, 85mm MAF & couplers on the way. Looks like intake & headers will be this years project.
