Ive heard the callaway camaro is pretty quick this year. 12's and 4.0 0-60. Does anyone know anything about this car, or is it all hype?

this is from autoweek magazine, dec. 9 issue.
they are punching out the 5.7 to 6.2L, making 465hp at 5750 rpm and 465 ft-lb of torque at 4750rpm. no turbo, no nitrous. it will have forged internals, a special callaway cam, cnc ported heads with stainless steel valves and chrome vanadium springs. rockers, pushrods and lifters will remain stock. the intake is an LS6 coupled with a larger throttle body and cold air intake. the chassis gets a different set of springs and koni shocks, lowering the car .75in. larger antiroll bars w/polyurethane bushings. new trailing arms and a panhard rod coupled with poly bushings beef up the rear suspension.
the car did 0-60 in 4.1, 1/4 mile in 12.1 @115 mph. the car tested was an A4, driven by the authors of the artical. it weighs in at 3480 lbs.

priced at $71,378, they are probably gone by this time.
callaway is only building 10 cars, but has different packages available you can buy and build yourself.

I'm thinking there are others, but I grabbed these. I don't like the nose or the slats, which are kinda a Callaway trademark...The rest looks fine and I actually like that color.

Who cares if all 2003 Cobra's get recalled or not? Those things happen to many cars on a regular basis. The fact here is, you could buy 2 03 Cobra's and make them both produce that C8's power for less than 1 C8(a convertible, and a coupe, at that). To top it off, the Cobra is far and away, a better looking car. What's the warranty on the Camaro, anyway? For the Callaway, you're paying a whole bunch to get the name, unless they're charging all that for the nice engine components, which are about equal to the factory Cobra's internals in regards to strength. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Well I have ! <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> As a matter of fact two, both were Vettes of course, one was a 90 ZR-1 that was one of his "SN" upgrades with N20, and the other was a 2000 C-5 with Callaway H/C/S upgrades, and believe me the Cobra was never and will never be in a leauge with either of these cars !
So unless U have some sort of experience in at least one of the vehicles in question, U my friend are just spouting an opinion !

They are only building 10 Callaway C8s.
They built MORE then 10 '03 Cobras.

The name CALLAWAY is synonomous with high performance and great attention to detail.
The name FORD is not. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

The name CALLAWAY should be compared with the likes of SALEEN. Personally, SALEEN Mustangs are just as overpriced for their performance.

I can't imagine what some of you are thinking. The 2003 Cobra hasn't been recalled and Ford said recently, it isn't going to be. They did say there were problems with some of those on the assembly line, but, they added, NONE were delivered and therefore, none would've been picked up. Whatever you saw, according to the press and to records attained from Ford Motor Company, was not 2003 Cobras being taken from the dealership back to the plant. I'm absolutely astonished! I'm sure you are too.

The Cobra must be one serious burden to some of you, because at nearly every turn, you're trying to find a way to make people believe it's inferior to the Camaro, or basically any GM product you can offer up. Performance wise, it's no ZO6, but that doesn't stop some of you from constantly comparing the two. It's no C8...Well according to some of you, who, no doubt haven't seen one in person, much less driven one. Oh, and Krush, I have driven the Cobra. We are ridiculous as a whole over this stuff. The Camaro is NOT a Cobra anymore than the Cobra is a ZO6. Any factory sold Camaro is less capable than the Cobra is, just as the Cobra is less capable than the ZO6. If you refuse to believe or admit that. Too bad. Facts are facts and when comparing the stock versions of the ZO6, standard C5, Camaro and Cobra, the ORDER of overall ability is simple. ZO6, Cobra, Corvette, Camaro. Deal with it. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
The C8 isn't even a good looking car, let alone worth 71K or more. The only value to it is the extremely limited production (10) that will be made. Well, that and a neat engine, built with purpose... The likes of which, GM never saw fit to bother with, sadly enough. And for those who still don't know it, the 2003 Cobra coupe stickers at less than 35K. <img border="0" alt="[fight]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[boring]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_zzz.gif" />

Without getting into a flame war I will present U with some facts and then U can digest them and re-write your last post !
First things first, punch in my address and find out how many SVT dealers are near me never mind I will save U the trouble Tasca (R.I.), Rizzo (R.I.), and Rodman (Ma.) !
Rodman Ford which is 330' across the street from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro Ma. is a very large SVT dealer ! 11 Saleen's in stock all different performance levels, 5 Lightnings, 7 Rousch vehicles, and last but not least they had at one time 3 "03" Cobra's in stock !
How do I know this ? Well for one being an ex- FOMOCO guy from back in the day I use to buy my tow vehicles from both Don (owner) and Scott (oldest son of owner) Rodman ! Bought one new 1992 F-350 Crew cab 4x4 to tow around my 1963 521 supercharged "PRO"-street Falcon and later I bought a "97" Xtra-cab F-150 4x4 Off-Road pick up from them, back in "99" I almost bought a Cobra from them, but man o man am I glad I didn't ! Now as for your line about no "03's" being shipped how do so many dealers have them if they were not shipped ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I mean c'mon I have seen them on the street, they are all over e-bay for sale, and 2 New England patriots bought 2 of the 3 that Rodman had in their showroom !

What's so special about a dealer near you selling Cobra and Saleen Mustangs? There's a dealer near me who keeps 5 Vipers in stock... So? There's a dealer near me that stocks SVT, Roush, and Steeda vehicles, as well as (for whatever reason) the limited production Ford Lightning Bolt, or whatever they call that completely SLP accessorized Ranger. Big deal. They sell them, they're a dealer... They may as well stock them. There's even a company near me that has a Saleen S7 on the floor... Oh well. Btw, Saleens aren't SVT vehicles. And speaking of believing propaganda... You're the one who said the 03 Coba is recalled. Why? Well simply because you read a post from LS1Tech.com.. Well for one Rodman got them and always gets them first, it's partly due to the captive audince they have there !

The way I understood it, certain owners have had numerous problems with body panel fitament and front end alignment and some motor issues !

Using the word "recall" in the wrong context may not have been a good choice on my part, and that is my bad, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> for which I apologize, but it still does not change the fact that dealers have "returned" units that were already delivered before the quality control production halt date !
