Call SLP with your VIN and have them check it. That's what I did.

the only problem with that is 98-99 ss's were not made by slp.. so they wouldnt know.. you can call a dealer and see if someone can look it up for you, but that not always works either.. the newer ones has a rpo code of wu8 in the door. but i seen the older ones like 98-99 with no code and still be a ss.. so its kind hard to find, just depends on what year it is .. 2000 and up are easy to figure out but 98-99 is kinda hit or miss.

i dont think u can do anything,, it's just a diff option, so i dont think a lawyer could do anything.. as far as a carfax ,insurance etc, they will not know if its a true ss or not.. same goes for the title it will say z28 on it.. a ss is a z28 with another package on it,,just like a ram air, it says firebird in title and or trans am,, it wont say ram air..and carfax not insurance will know diff..

mine is a 2000. and i just dug up all of the paperwork for the car when i bought it. and it says that they sold me a silver 2000 z28. so thats what i get for just rushing into things and signing my name with out reading. so basically they fucked me with no lube and there is nothing i can do about it. so whats the lesson of the day?.....read before you sign!!!

Do you have the bill of sale, you might get a misrep.

But yea, you really do have to check these kinds of things are shady or not in the know dealers will rip you off.

Even though it's mostly the same thing SS holds alot more worth.

twokss 03-11-2007 01:39 PM

yea..to be quite honest i dont care if its a z28 or an ss. but if it is a z28, they told me that it was an ss...it has all the ss stuff on it (badges hood). there would have been a substantial difference in the price. basically im just lookin to get some money out of it so i can buy a rear. haha

Hm, I called SLP on my 98 to see what the build number was and whether it was a real SS or not and they told me the build number and everything.

update...nofearracing28 just pmed me. he is a tech for gm. i gave him my vin and he looked it up for me. it really is an ss. thanks alot nofearracing28. i feel kinda bad now talkin all that shit on the dealership......eh no i dont. their still douches.

jbuerke142 03-11-2007 04:50 PM

somebody needs to make this info a sticky (not that it would help):

Open your driver's door.
Look at the RPO sticker (the sticker with a bunch of 3 letter/number codes).
Look for WU8.
If it's there, it's an SS. If it's not, it's not.
The end.

JohnFrazee02SS 03-11-2007 04:53 PM

whats up with these fake silver SSs around here?...damn

nofearracing28 03-11-2007 09:51 PM

If the dealership advertized it as an SS, i'd take it back and see what they can do for you. See if they can get you a better price on it, or buy it back from ya.

Justin00SS 03-11-2007 09:55 PM

You car will come up as a z28 in carfax and for insurance.

Your car is a z28. Mine is a z28.

They are all z28s. You either have the "SS" option or you don't.

Same here. I called SLP BEFORE I bought the car. It is #1066 of 3,017 produced.
