I ended up just buying a new ls2 chain. I left the stock crank gear on. The first ls2 chain I had was a low mileage used one. I didn't want to chance it so just bought a new ls2 chain. There was still slight slack, but this appears to be the norm, once the car is running, it tightens up. I tried to remove the crank gear, but it was being a PITA, so I left as is as it was on there really good.

I saw your thread from a couple years back when you were debating on pulling the crank gear because of the slack that was in the new ls2 timing chain. When/if you replaced the crank gear did it get rid of that extra play you were talking about? im debating on taking it off if it does get rid of the slack. otherwise ill get a different chain.
