no mechanical gauge will fit factory hole....you can drill and tap the flat spot on the top of the water pump though!
or run an electric gauge and get an adapter fitting for the factory boss in the head

Anyone else know of any gauges that will work with the 3-wire sender?
Ignore this wash:
If you install another one in the other Head, it will give you a false reading..way hotter than it should be.
Heat soak being where it is on the back side of the Engine, and being at the back of the Heads it gets pretty toasty back there. The Sensor itself gets hot and messes with the reading.
I've tried it and I found it to be true.

Yea, that was on my car, and I read that other people have the same problems with a tight Engine Compartment.
ok, i ran into the same problem w/ the pass side head. on this my newest creation 5.3.in a what??????
efilive/ the computer was reading 210 on the driver side head/factory temp sending unit. but the pass side head/autometer gauge is reading 250.eek............ neither side feels hotter than the other.

The sensor reads heatsoak from the coolant. Engine bay space and temperature is irrelevant. If it reads 250*, then quite simply, that point in the system is 250*

When you actually see it happen then you let me know..
I thought something was wrong with the Sensor till I took a Thermal Imager and read the Temps in the Engine bay..and the back side of the Engine was ALOT hotter than the front side after getting off of the highway. Everyone knows the back side always gets hotter..not necessarily the Coolant temp, the residual temp all together.

I'm a little confused here and would like you guys to clarify a little if possible. I want to run full Auto-meters in my car when I drop in my 04 tahoe 5.3...that is speedo, tacometer, oil, water temp, volt and fuel. So I will need to drill and tap a new hole for the oil and temp sesors that come with the auto-meter gauges? there is no way to splice off the wire to the computer and run it to the gauge? or some other quick remedy to this issue? I'd rather not pull my head and tap it and risk shavings in the coolant.

Another option.
The Equus Oil Pressure & Electronic Temperature Metric Adapter Kit:
http://www.autobarn.net/eqoilpreselt.html
Same price as the Autometer 2277 but it comes with five fittings for various applications. The 12 mm x 1.5 fitting's inner diameter is big enough for for almost all 1/8 NPT temp sensor fittings without the need to drill out.
Just installed it on my LS2 using a crush washer and Teflon tape on the threads.

I am trying to source a 3 wire sender to hook up my gauge as I want to know what the computer is reading. I thought that the LS1/6 used a 3 wire sender, but all the part numbers I look up show the exact same part number as for the 2 wire in my 5.3. Any help is appreciated.
Never mind, did more searching & found a thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...mp-sensor.html
