Default cadillac XLR with a LSx/t6060?

has anyone put a LSX into a cadillac XLR?

how tough might it be with a t56 or t6060?

anyone know what kind or rear end a XLR has and can it hold any power? Is it a transaxle like vettes?

Im assuming it would fit with little trouble but i dont know how the trans would line up.

thoughts? comments? concerns?

Its supposed to be similar. Same platform. I don't know why you wouldn't get a vette instead though, XLRs are ugly imo, and overpriced.

You can get the NEW S/C 6.2L ZR1 motor in the 09 CTS-V 553 horse power... little less boost and smaller S/C than the ZR1

I think a XLR with chevy motor would KICK *** !!

All the stuff should bolt right up.

XLR is to Vette

as

Firebird is to Camaro. Just different drive train... think 67-81 F-bodies.

the cts-v motor(LSA) and the ZR1 motor(LS9) are actually very different

some block and valve differences... s/c and inter-cooler differences as well as computer. but interchangable. And I am sure much cheaper to buy the ZR1 replacement.

as for price an ealry XLR in good shape can be had for $25k

not too bad IMHO. Then add a ls3 and t6060...

I think they look GREAT. plus theyre rare, nice interior, and hardtop vert. I think it would make a nice package... basically waht GM should have done

I think a 500" LSx would be the perfect engine for an XLR

Not quite. Internals are also completely different. The only thing between the two motors that are the same are the heads and block. Valves are the same and blocks are the same.

The stock caddy engine is great, ive been trying to find info on just doing the tranny swap since these cars are based off vettes. The CTS-V's engine is hand assembled and suprcharged. with 450hp, I dont see the need for the LSX swap myself, i prefer something different. Even the stock XLR has 320 doent it? Thats LS1 territory. Plus i like the exotic throaty growl of the 4.6 with an x-pipe and stingers, fits the car better than a lsx's deep rumble. I would keep the engine, and mod it, but i deffinately want to find out about the tranny swap. I want to buy one bad, but i cant live with an auto!!! Why didnt GM just offer a freaking stick?

I have a 2006 XLR with 12k on it. It is not a V. I an just starting a swap for an LS7. Actually it will be a built Warhawk with a LS7 top end. I'm hoping to make close to 600 at the wheels, and this is not possible with the Northstar. Don't get me wrong, I like the Northstar, but it is over-worked in the V. I'll post pics of the build as it progresses. I'm just getting ready to pull the current engine.

Dod,

You raise my big concern with this swap. Have you gotten your LS PCM to talk with you dash cluster. I've been assured this is possible with the LS1 PCM or that the XLR V pcm can be flashed to run the LS motors. I would like to chat re where you are with your project. Do you have pics?

I got a PM from Dodiibob on his XLR. It runs with the LS1 in it, but they haven't gotten the tack and speedo to work yet. I'm told by the Fiero tuning guys that the XLR V series PCM can be flashed and tuned to run an LS tune. If that is the case, the dash will still read the PCM. Does anyone have any reliable info on this tune?
