I know im a little late here but Im running a dual plane on my carbed 5.3 and i dont think i want the single plain on next years motor. I cut the divider about 1/2 way down to the floor of the plenum. The motor pulls like a freight train in the 3000-6500 rpm range. Especially in a 6.0 where more torque is availabe, i think the dual plane is just fine, might as well use the power where the motor wants to make it right?

The motor is a 70k junkyard 5.3 with a tr220, dual plane and a 750hp, just for comparison purposes. My times are in my sig.

Man, I haven't been on here in a while but now I am stoked after reading all this.
I am picking up a 6.0L from my brother in a week or two. He bought it for a spare motor to use in his work truck but sold the truck so I am buying it from him. It is a bone stock never touched motor with 82,000 miles. I don't know what year it was pulled from but I do know that he has had it for two years stored in his shop.
Billy, I don't want to hijack your tread but I really want to pick your brain on your setup.
I am putting together a 1970 Camaro to run at the strip, th-350 manual trans, 4.11 rear. Was going to go with a 385 but thinking about going with the 6.0 after reading this.
If you don't mind, can you tell me what all you did to the stock longblock?? Change cam of course but what springs? Did you have to fly cut pistons? How do you have it wired up?? What ignition system?
I know NOTHING at all about LSx motors so this is all new to me but I am willing to bail in head first with some help from those of you who have already done it.

i had to fly cut the pistons because i milled.040 off the 799 heads(64cc to 59cc's)and used .040 thick head gaskets...the springs i used came with my polluter cam kit from tick performance(.660 lift hydraulic roller springs)but since im running a carb its ground on a 110 lsa...ls6 oil pump...its a bone stock lq4 dished piston 60k shortblock out of a 2003 2500 series gm truck....victor jr intake..stock out of the box qft 850 double pumper...kooks 1 7/8 stainless foxbody headers with dynomax bullet 3 1/2 mufflers...msd 6010 box with the number 6 pill...ngk spark plugs gapped at .030...turbo 350 with a 4000 ati conv. these motors are easier to work on than the old 23 degree headed small blocks to me...if you are going to run a carb all you will need to keep on the motor is the crank sensor,cam sensor and the coil packs to run the motor using the msd 6010 box...hope this helped some...

Man I hope mine runs pretty good. I got a lq4 with around 40k with patriot 317 heads milled a little with a 244 250 with a .612/.620 lift @ a 113lsa. Got a real good deal on the heads and cam thats why I went that way. Probably go with a different cc head or get mine milled a little more later. My compression is at 9.8:1, I would like to see around 11:1. Im running a powerglide and a 850 pro systems carb. Dont like much just some wiring and little stuff. This is getting me more motivated now.

what do you have as far as suspension mods? How did you get it so light? Havent weighed mine yet but I bet its gonna weigh around 3k. I also have power windows too. I have the tubular a-arms, k member, and coil overs but still have all my dash, lights and alot of the stock 4 cylinder wiring. Just cant get motivated to rip all the wire out that I dont need. BTW props on a good running foxbody. You got a nice sleeper.

yes...either head works good..but the 799 heads are usually a little cheaper to buy.

i have stock struts and rear shocks..adjustable upper and lower rear control arms with spherical bushings,team z anti roll bar,aje front coil over kit with 150 pound 14 inch springs....as far as weight savings goes i took the crash bars out of the doors,bumpers..kirky seats,lite weight battery,aluminum fuel cell,82-92 fbody radiator,glass bolt on hood,chromoly cage and drive shaft and anything else that doesnt serve a purpose...lol but the car does still have windshield wipers and all the heater stuff....and all the under layment on the floor and all the factory wiring harness.

Yes, the MSD6010 comes with the wiring harness
it plugs into
power, ground, tach, coil packs, cam sensor, crank sensor and works with either the supplied chips or you can create your own curve with the MSD software and a laptop/computer

compression is 11.35 and im running a 4.10 gear with 26 inch by 10 slicks..

I'm in the process of putting a 86 coupe together right now. I was hoping to run around 7.0s on motor. Looks like it shouldn't be a problem after reading this thread!

Here is my set up at the moment..

Stock 100k mile 6.oh Shortblock w/ ARP rod bolts
Patriot Stage III 317s milled to 65cc
Texas Speed Torquer V3 231/234 600lift on a 111ls (dont care much for it but it was free)
Edelbrock Victor Jr intake and 750 Holley DP (for now going to 850 later)
Th400 trans, B&M Pro Ratchet and TCI 3800 Nitrous Converter
Built 8.8 with 3.73s
Full Tubular Front suspension from AJE with Coil Over Conversion
Adj Uppers and Lowers in the rear, subframes, etc
10pt cage, racing buckets, fuel cell w/ (2) Holley Blues
Pro Stars with 275/60 M/Ts
Edelbrock Perf RPM Plate Kit

Still need headers, exhaust, driveshaft, MSD 6010, and wiring..

I got my performer rpm dual plane on order for my LQ9 for the c4. I'm hoping with it gutted im not much over 3k lbs. The LQ9 is going to be stock with a 650-700 CFM carb. The reason for the smaller carb is it helps make better power due to the velocity of the fuel going into the motor. A larger carb slows this down a bit. I dont really know how to explain it all to much but for what im going for this will work out best i believe. stock 317 heads. I will do a cam swap soon and then go on to replacing the heads. I do not want to have to touch the pistons yet. Im looking for 12's in the 1/4 mile to start with a 700r4 and stock converter. MSD 6010 box

Im interested to see what i should rev this motor to safely, and stock where it is going to make the best power. Any ideas?

Guy's I'm putting a ls2 in my 69 camaro,Trick Flow 225's,comp cam,3600 convertor,4.30 gears,in the trailblazer in went 7.40's in the 1/8 at 4400 or 4800 lbs,i was thinking in the 69 I was hoping to see some 7.20's but looking at these threads maybe some 6's in the 1/8 may be fairly easy especially with the car weighing 3200 lbs,these dam motors are amazing.THANKS!
