LS1 into 240sx
I've been thinking about doing this swap for a long time now. I was wondering if anyone's done a LS1/T56 swap into a Nissan 240sx (95-98).
The 240sx is similar to a Mazda RX-7 in dimensions (but cheaper to buy), so it should be possible. I've followed Brian Hinson's build up and his RX-7 seems real nice.
Any responce would be greatly appreciated.

This is what my 240sx would look like,
plenty of room for an LS1/T56

ummm, go to the LT1 forum of this site. Ther's an LT1 240 there already, so doing an LS1 should be very possible, but hardly trail-blazing

Re: LS1 into 240sx
I've been planning on doing this to my rx7, which got my brother, who owns a 240sx, very interested in swaping an ls1 into his car. There is a guy at freshalloy.com who successfully got an LT1 in, which is great, but sadly, he says an LS1 will not fit. I don't really remember exactly why, but i think it had something to do with the oil pan, and the steering rack. I asked hinson supercars about the swap, and he said "I am not familiar with the dimensions of the 240sx engine bay. If it will fit in the car, we can make it work for him. However, we would most likely not be able to start on that type of conversion R&D till Winter."
Good luck on the swap. Also, if you care about weight dist. the 302 is a great option. With aluminum heads, it will actually be LIGHTER than the KA24DE.

Re: LS1 into 240sx
thanks for the responces guys,
that rx-7 swap sounds real nice, let me know if your brother will go throught with the swap into his 240sx, either the LS1 or LT1.
also, could you let me know who the guy at freshalloy.com was--I've ran some searches but haven't been able to find anyone who did the LT1 swap.
thanks...

Re: LS1 into 240sx
I'm doing this convertion and no it won't be easy. The LS1 is rear sump and the 240SX is rear steer. I was playing with a way of converting the 240 to front steer by taking the entire front subframe and swaping sides. I might still do it but to take care of the problem I'm just cutting the fire wall and setting the engine back a few inches if I can clear enough space I might even put in the Vette oil pan which is REALLY wide but allows 2-3 inches lower placement of the engine.

Re: LS1 into 240sx
PSJ - The 240sx has the rack and pinion mounted on the rear of the cross member.
I was thinking of just relocating it the the front of the cross member, but I'm still not sure how much work that would be. The corvette pan seems the way to go.
TERABYTE - Let me know if you decided to 'swap sides' or if cutting the firewall was enough, and if you have any pics of your conversion.

Re: LS1 into 240sx
derek, oh yeah, holden oil pan part#12561541
$250 plus shipping from tunkeyenginesupplies.com comes with pickup
or from gmpartsdirect.com for $237 without pickup.
this is what i use on my mercedes, same setup as yours should work good. also have to relocate dipstick to run into the pan, and have clearance for the filter in the left front.

Well I got a Sawzall at a pawn shop this week and went to town on the front of the car. I already cut the firewall as well.
I have a bid in for a Corvette oil pan but I'll have to wait till I get some money thats comeing to me before I can get the drivetrain. It will take some time for me to get to the point of droping the engine. I have tons of pics of what I have done so far and would love to share.
I don't want the Holden oil pan because that won't give me the other couple of inches that I want to drop the engine and those cars initialy had an oil starvation problem. GM's cheesy solution was to add another quart of oil. The Vette oil pan should be much better for high G loads that I will be submitting the car to.
