Wow, that is one helluva build. I love the way it looks, like it came from the factory.

Well, I thought I'd update this a little. This truck was sold about 3 months ago. It wasn't that I didn't like it, I did, and it was easily the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, but it was way too nice to drive on a daily basis. I lived in fear of it getting hit or door dinged, and since I started it to be my parts hauler and since it was never going to be that I sold it. When I sold it, I thought I was doing really well for what I got out of it, about 7 or 8k more than I had in it, not including my time which I don't count, so I guess you could say that's what I got paid to build it. So I guess I made $3 an hour! LOL! I actually thought, (and the key word here is 'thought') I got top dollar for a '72 Chevy truck, as I've seen some really nice ones go for around 15 to 18k, so here's the shitty part. The guy I sold it to took it to the Mecum auction here last weekend, and sold it for....... are you ready for this?

$36,000!!! Yes that's right, 36k, and didn't turn a wrench on it. He made 11k more than he bought it for, and only had it 3 months. But oh well, I guess you live and learn.

Anyway, I have a replacement for it that I've been working on for the last month or so, and it WILL, I repeat, will be my parts hauler/beat around truck that this one was going to be in the begining. Although it is the worst $900 I ever spent (the guy I bought it from was a crook and didn't describe it accuratley at all) I'm going to make lemonde out of lemons! I figure I should give it my all, or give up, and I'm not a quitter!

1) I can't believe you sold it
2) I can't believe you sold it
3) OMG you sold it?

Sounds like he did really well at Mecum. It's a shame you didn't get the money out of that, but auctions are hit & miss and he probably had to pay a steep consignment fee. I would be proud your work brought in that kind of money - to be frank, it is well deserved of your efforts and I'm sorry it didn't make it to your pocket.

I have to agree... but I COMPLETELY understand the decision. I sold a car last year for the exact same reason - the car was fun but the build got out of hand and went completely away from where I wanted it to go.

Next time don't make it so nice and maybe you'll keep it!

Don't suppose I could get you to build another ac box for a 68 c10? Heck I'll even pay you $3 per hr, LOL!

I'm building the crappy blue 1971 right now, and it won't be as nice so it should stay around for a while.

As for building another A/C box, that part sucked so you're on your own there!

I thought about starting another build thread but all the pictures I've taken so far look just like this truck. But I don’t know I might do it anyway.

Sorry to hear you sold it, But you've got another fun project, and nabbed a short bed for $900?

This looks to be one of the most informative swa threads for a 67-72 LSx truck.
If you know of a simliar thread, full of info like this one, please post a link for me?

I own a '69 c-20, and I'm about to pick up a 5.3 for it.
My concerns were the fuel pump, tranny linkage, and the A/C.
You covered the fuel pump issue, as and retained the seat tank, which is what I was planning to do. Your fix is super simple, and I dig.

I'm a manual tranny guy, but my truck has a t400, so I might as well stay auto. With a 4L60, or 4L80, how does the column linkage hook up? Noone ever really mentions this.

Thanks bud, Good Job.

The shift linkage hooks up exactly like the factory did it if you put the trans in exactly the same spot, however it usually doesn't work out that way. I used the original shift linkage, but had to drill new holes in the frame for the frame part to bolt to. Also on truck 4l60 and 4l80's with the trans range sensor on them, the shift shaft is about an inch or so longer than a 350 turbo, so you have to shorten the piece that goes between the shift lever on the trans and the piece that bolts to the frame. That's the gist of it.

Leevon, i thought i was getting top dollar for it. How many 67-72's have you seen sell for more then 25k? But anyway i'm keeping the next one!
