Great build and congrats on the Cover! I can only imagine how gratifying it would be to see all your hard work put on display like that for all to see!!!

'71 short bed, 2006 5.3/4l60e. Pretty much an orange version of my old blue truck.

Do you think the A/C box you made would work with a big block? Thanks Oz

There may be some confusion in this thread since there are pics of two different trucks. The blue truck is the one I cut and modified the A/C box on. It was definitely the harder way to go, and I'm not sure if a big block would fit with it or not. It was however all factory 67-72 air parts. The orange truck also has a factory A/C box, but I only changed the evaporator inside of it, way easier to do. For details on how to do it, check the build thread on my rusty green '71 truck, I have a lot of pics while doing that conversion. I think it works every bit as good as the blue trucks air. There's a link in my sig to that thread.

I have used boxes out of front wheel drive cars to do AC in muscle cars, old hot rods,P/Us,and Jeeps.I usually use Cavalier or Escort boxes. If you use the evaporator core, make sure it is cleaned out really well.News units are pretty cheap on epay.I figure out where about I want my lines to be and then go JY shopping for a box that is close. Then modify as needed,if needed. Most of my installs didn't require the box to be modified, but did require new holes in the firewall.

No, I sold it several years back. As for trucks, I just have the rusty green truck and my current project, '72 Blazer. Why do you ask?

Eric I used your evaporator box idea for a first gen Camaro when I saw it on the blue truck. I figured out that the 77-79 Nova evaporators were the right size with an orifice tube and used one of those instead of converting a VIR system. You can do the same for a POA system. I am sure you could do the same with the truck boxes by using similar years. After that I used a modern S10 accumulator, hard line, and condenser. The compressor is the stock LS1 variable stock from the motor. S10's had both fixed and variable compressors so you can take care of the pressure switch or sensor along with the wiring differences and still use the same basic parts depending on your motors compressor. The S10 accumulators are metric threads at the evaporator. I took care of that by using an old style accumulator tube and used that as a die to rethread the accumulator which worked perfectly since it is just aluminum the rest was taken care of at the hose setup with stock hoses cut at the ends and the proper fittings crimped on. The hard line will work with the old threads at the evaporator. I plan on building an adapter hose just because but it is not needed. This is to replace a vintage air that I absolutely hated because it did not blow any fresh air. I managed to get a newer Nova A/C setup out of a donor car and used that but an original A/C car will work the same way.

Was just wondering if it might be available for sale. The blazer looks great!
