Oh no, I still have quite a bit of work before I drive it. The 5.3L swap is just a small portion of the restoration. I have never driven this truck! I hope to have it on the road by spring!

Yeah I know the feeling, I only drove mine ~50 miles or so before tearing it apart! And I too hope to be driving it by spring.

Progress has been REAL slow lately, the weather has been completely stupid around here. It's been in the 20's or below for the last week or so, and the next week doesn't look good either. I don't have real good heat in my garage, but I did manage to get what's painted wet sanded and polished out. I went out to the garage yesterday and found the bucket of water I had been using to wet sand had completely frozen!

This might be why, this is INSIDE my garage!

But, after everything was polished I got the new trim on. It's starting to look like a truck again.

I'm kinda up in the air about wheels, I was going to put my 8" steel wheels with dogdish hubcaps on it, but since it's not going to be a DD anymore, I'm leaning toward something a little nicer. And the harness isn't ready yet, but that's one of my favorite parts to do, so it's not a problem.

Well, that settles it. I'm a big pu**y. I haven't been in my garage in three weeks because of the cold weather and you're living out there in 20 degree temps.

Nice progress by the way.

Great build man, I will be watching this one. Just wanted to add I have been having similar experiences with my local yards as you did with yours. I drove 2 hours to pick up a GTO LS1 and it had very obviously been under water, covered (caked) with sediment and the guy practically threw me out of his shop!!

Looks like you are doin great now, great color choice..

BTW it was 75 here yesterday...

Wow, sorry about the GTO engine. Did the same to pick up a project car for a friend... let's just say the pictures put things in a much better light than anticipated and we came home with an empty trailer.

Where is "here?" Do we need to make a road trip and bring some of your weather back to KC? Right now it's 37.

Wow, I guess it's been longer than I thought since I posted anything on this build thread. But I have been working on it, just going a little slower than I would like because of the crappy weather we've been getting this winter. But anyway, I got the fuel system finished. I did a '68 this way about 5 or 6 years ago, and it's still going so I did this one the same way.

Walbro 255 inline pump.

Name: Photo1538.jpg
Views: 3462
Size: 34.2 KB

Then drilled the flat spot on the fuel sender for the return line.

Name: Photo1539.jpg
Views: 3452
Size: 40.2 KB

Bent up a return line for it.

Name: Photo1540.jpg
Views: 3447
Size: 36.7 KB

Then soldered it in (not soldered in these pics though)

Name: Photo1541.jpg
Views: 3441
Size: 49.9 KB

Name: Photo1542.jpg
Views: 3447
Size: 54.1 KB

This is how it looks in the tank. No rubber lines in the cab!

Name: Photo1543.jpg
Views: 3386
Size: 52.4 KB

Then under the cab the feed line runs through a pre-filter, then to the pump, then to a high pressure filter, then to the fuel rail and back to the tank.

The system is mostly hardlined with a few short pieces of fuel injection hose connecting the pump and to give some flex where the cab meets the frame.

The truck is wired too, but I don't have any pics at the moment, I'll update this later.

I painted the whole thing orange because I liked the way it looked better than just painting the block, and it gives it kind of an original look.

My welder is a 20 year old 110V Hobart mig, and my paint guns are equally as old JGA DeVilbiss paint guns.

And I'll answer any questions I can, just ask.

What Wallbro pump did you use? I know the 255 lpm but which model number if you know. I just ordered a 392. Seems like it can flow quite a bit at higher press. Way overkill for my project. Thanks for updating the build just for me question. Your truck Looks great. I'm waiting on my JB weld to set up on mine. Didn't solder it. Was afraid I'd melt the insulator on the wire connector with the torch.

The fuel pump? Those are just the rubber covered metal clamps that came with the pump.
