Default 300ZX--LS1 Conversion Pics!!

These pics were taken just prior to the conversion project completion. The only thing left to do at this point was to install the fascia, exhaust, intake, and interior. The hard part had been done. Thank God!

This is the LS1 motor and transmission that would be installed.

Final motor installation. You can see the new firewall. Just needed to be painted!

We had to fab up some test pipe sections that eliminated the LS1 precats.... The precat sections were too wide to fit within the confines of the engine bay.

Miscellanious Motor pics!

Enjoy! I'll have have pics of the final product by Monday....

Thank you! It was a heck of a project... Now i just have to get some seat issues worked out. I had an intake valve seat drop when driving home...so it bend a pushrod and chewed up the valve and seat. So the head shoudl be finished being machined tomorrow and hopefully by this weekend itll be running again!

Yeah, that radiator is the Howe Racing radiator... Its the "Ford style" of all things as the 300ZX motor had "ford style" inlet/outlet locations. But i used Cool Flex hose to run with it now. It was fun getting that thing in there with room to spare... Had to fab a bracket that holds it lower than its stock location.

Great pics!!!

I'm really glad that I took a chance on creating this forum, the projects that you guys are doing exceed my expectations by about a thousand percent.

I think more of you guys should do valve springs and slip in a little cam too.

I agree on the cam swap! While that thing is apart slide ya a lil cam in with some springs. Those cars don't weigh much less than an F-body do they?

The 300Zx with the LS1 should be a good deal lighter than a f-body. Also the fact that i have significantly gutted the 300ZX....thatll help as well. As soon as i get it all put together...i will take it to a truck stop to weigh it. I cant wait to run it!!

What do the 3Zs tip the scale at? The LS1RX7 idea still won't get out of my head.

You know....i wish i had mine running long enough to take it to a scale... Soon enough! But i have gutted mine to some extent. So it will be a good deal lighter than the stock 300ZX. The LS1/4L60E combo is actually about 100lbs lighter than the stock 300ZX motor/tranny. I would probably say that the RX7 would be a bit lighter than the 300ZX...

I want to get my car weighed too. I didn't know truck stops had scales. How about weigh stations? Will they weigh your car for you if you pull into one and ask nicely?

Okay but he said, "truck stop" which is a fuel/food/shower place for truckers. A weigh station is totally different. So I guess I'll summise that I can go to a weigh station and that truck stops don't have scales. Right?

Actually a lot of truck stops do have scales. That is where I got mine weighed. 2900 LB with a full tank of gas by the way. It cost about $5 if I remember right. I went to the shell just off 90 on 20. It also breaks it up by axle. It went in 20 LB increment so it is not exact , but close I am sure.

Do you have any more shots with that pan?

Default LS1 300zx conversion

I have been thinking about doing the same conversion in my 300zx. I actually have a non-turbo but think it would be wise to do the swop in a twin turbo body for strength reasons.
I was wondering how easily the engine fitted. Could I stick with the twin turbo box or should I use the box with the LS1. Do you have to make a new firewall?
any help would be great
thanks

Thats awesome that there are others that want to do this conversion. Regarding the post by NZ 300ZX, the NA body and the TT 300ZX body are exactly the same. The only differences would be if it were the 2+2 body (longer) or the slicktop version. Other than that all you will find are minor cosmetic differences.

And about that front sump, Holden oil pan. I have another picture of it by itself but the streetneeds pic uploading site is having probs. I can email it to you if you like. PM me or email me.

Default v8 conversion

I know the twin turbo diff is stronger and the gear box bell housing has more webbing for strength. Other than that I don't know. mine is a 2+2 t-top. Did you use the corvette computer? What 300 did you put it in?
