I installed my lq4 6.0 engine in my 67 chevelle with a 4l80e. I have the engine sitting in there at a 6 degree angled back. i dont really like the way the driveshaft angle is this way but I cant get the 4l80e to sit up in the tunnel any higher without some serious modification. I will change it if I have to but do you guys think this is too much angle?

The engine angle should as close as possible to the axle angle.

I dont think that angle is going to hurt anything. Your U-joints need to be at 3-5 degrees for the correct pinion angle.

You best consider some floor pan alterations, it's better to do that now than to end up with a driveline angle that is not correctable. The old "engine tilt" theory has been replaced with "lets get the driveline angles perfect" theory.

I cant drop the front of the engine due to steering clearance. I think I will work on the trans tunnel to get the trans to sit up higher. I am using carshop plates with 2 washers to space the engine higher for steering clearance. thanks for the input guys.

Well I started to cut up the floor pan but I may have to just cut the whole tunnel out for clearance to get the transmission angle up more. Has anyone else had to cut up the floor or are you just running the transmission angle down a little??

I had to cut my trans tunnel out and refab it back up just to fit it in... and after that, I was able to get it to 3 deg. Both the T56 and the 4L80's are just Big !... the early (60's and 70"s) car were just never designed to have that large of a transmission in them. Just get out the cutting and welding tool and you'd be better in the end.

1. Have you looked at other mount options?
2. What pan are you using?
3. What part of the steering is interferring?
4. B4 you chop up the floor, have you looked at what the engine location will do with header clearance?

Too close to the underside of the floor.
A. Not enuf air space to cool the trans.
B. Alot of heat/noise from the trans will be absorbed by the floor.
C. Engine torque will raise the dr side of the trans, and can push the case into the floor..

I had to cut out the floorpan from the shifter to half way up on the cowl to make room for the 6 speed. I laid up the new one in fiberglas mat. It was really pretty easy once I got the nerve to just start cutting. The angles are critical and it is worth the effort to get them right.
