Default patriot head package vs. CNC porting

im putting an LS1 from an '01 trans am WS6 into a '90 nissan 300ZX. im going to build the head a little so i can pull 400+ in the end.

does anyone have any input on the patriot head package:

vs. a CNC port job? has anyone gone with either and what results have you seen?

also, does anyone have any suggestions on a good cam company? ill definitely be going with a bigger cam after we build everything else.

thanks for any help.

Patriot will CNC your 241 (casting #) heads for $600 and add their spring package for $255 more. So you get nearly the same thing for $855.

your better off just paying for a true ls6 casting fully cncd. the ls6 casting will flow 15 cfm better with stock valve and 20-23cfm better with 2.02 valves over a standard 5.7 ls1 casting. thats equivalent to leaving 10rwhp on the table.

In addition, the 64cc chambers of the ls6 head will give you a half point compression bump over the 67-68cc chambers of a ls1 head. That is another 7-10 RWHP and 10RWTQ youd be leaving on the table with a standard ls1 casting.

Patriots from what ive seen over the years flow right around what they advertise .
