power steering port sizes
Hello,
can anyone tell me what the size and threads the ports are are on the pressure and return side of an LS1 pump and a 67 chevelle gear? And, can I just use AN adapters, fittings and hoses for power steering, or is that a bad idea?
Thanks
Rob

when i was building my truck i went with street&performance. they sell an adapter fitting that goes from metric to j.i.c fittings. then you can go to the local napa and have them make your pressure line. i think its a 16mm

In my case, 68 Cutlass with an 02 ls1 from a TA, this was rather simple.
On the pressure side the hard tube size was the same between the two, only the design / thread pattern on the fitting was different. I just cut off the LS1's flare, removed the fitting and reused the fitting that fit into my steering gear. I only did a single, not double, flare if I remember right. Works great, no leaks.
The only negative is that the LS1's hard line had a few bends not nessary for my routing.
I could snap a pic tonight. PM me if you want that.

Thanks for the input guys, but I don't have any existing lines. I have nowhere to start without sizes and thread pitch. Does anyone have these for the ls1 pump and 67 chevelle gear?
Thanks

Ls1 16x1.5 Gm box 7/16-20 You can look on rock auto to verify this info. You can also switch out the fittings on the power steering pumps, put the stock one in the ls1 pump, then go to Napa and have them make you a line. Box side is 7/16 pump side is 3/8 cost me $20 @ napa. Using Earls it would of cost $75 pm me if you have any questions.
